Thanks to everyone who held on without getting a proper introduction post. Hi, guys! My life's been a bit, uh, weird the last couple of days. Not that it isn't usually, but the kind of weird that doesn't steer me towards updating ( Read more... )

The song requirement is confusing me. Maybe I'm just too tired to figure it out, but -- they want a song that is not part of an actual show, or not usually 'done in' a show...? (Non-musical theatre?) and what do they mean by instinctual acting vs. ... what kind of acting? I'm good with musical theatre music, but if they do mean non-theatre music, then I'm...well, not so good. *g* but I will note that Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, and Joan Baez are probably good places to start, depending on your vocal range which I don't know at all, because they write such good lyrics.

but like I said -- confused.

The song requirement is so difficult to describe. XD I think the idea's to get the student to "act" the song just by getting comfortable in it and letting it come naturally, instead of rehearsing it. It definitely wouldn't fly in a show, and it's more of a test of natural ability. Both musical theatre and non-musical are okay, and I could honestly use suggestions for either. I'll check out Joan Baez, my mom's a huge fan of hers. (And my range is mezzo- to soprano, I guess. I can sing high, I just can't sing that high.)
