It was a lazy sort of afternoon. They were lying in a tangled heap across Harry’s bed, growing more uncomfortable by the second as pleasure gave way to shaky and over-sensitised limbs and skin slick with perspiration, heartbeats slowing to something less frantic. Too exhausted to move but too awkwardly sprawled to sleep, and the haze of lust was melting away as Hermione felt herself come back to her senses, mind sharpening as the fog lifted.

“We’re supposed to be going shopping,” she murmured, as if the thought had just occurred to her, rather than being the sole purpose they’d originally agreed to meet up.

“Urgh,” Ron moaned, his face buried in the crook of Harry’s elbow. “Shopping on Christmas Eve? I’d rather snog one of those giant spiders.”

“Acromantula,” Hermione supplied automatically.

“I’d rather snog an Acromantula,” Ron intoned.

“You’re the one who was so blasé about leaving everything to the last minute,” Hermione pointed out, disentangling her legs from Harry’s and rolling over with great difficulty and poking Ron in the shoulder.

“I said there wasn’t any point buying all our presents in the first week of December,” Ron corrected her, emerging from under Harry’s arm. “I didn’t say we should risk life and limb by going to Diagon Alley on Christmas Eve.”

Hermione opened her mouth to retort, but Harry beat her to it. “This was the only day we could all get together,” he reminded them both, stretching leisurely, hands brushing over the headboard. “Maybe we should just go and get it over with.”

Hermione nodded in agreement but Ron yawned widely and loudly, earning himself an angry frown. He rested his cheek against Harry’s chest, smiling sleepily as Harry’s fingers absentmindedly toyed with his hair.

“Don’t wanna go anywhere,” he mumbled. “You and Harry can go, I’ll stay here and keep the bed warm.”

“Oi,” Harry snorted, cuffing him lightly over the head. “I’m not fighting my way through last minute Christmas shoppers while you stay in bed.”

“And I’m not going on my own,” Hermione said curtly before either of them had the bright idea of suggesting it.

“Well then, we’ll all have to stay here then,” Ron shrugged as if the argument was settled.

He gave a rather indignant yelp as Hermione reached across and flicked him square in the forehead, Harry laughing between them as he watched them glare at each other.

“We need to go shopping,” Hermione snapped.

“What is it with girls and shopping?” Ron grumbled, which only made Hermione’s eyes narrow further, the temperature of the room suddenly appearing to drop several degrees.

“Bad idea, mate,” Harry hissed under his breath in a stage whisper. “Change of tack, change of tack.”

“Besides, you bought all that stuff in the January sales,” Ron said hastily. “I bet you’ve got more than enough hidden away to keep everyone happy.”

Hermione paused at that, because she had been sensible enough to take advantage of the inevitable post-Christmas bargains.

She noticed Harry’s sly grin out of the corner of her eye. “Hermione’s planning saves the day again,” he laughed, and she knew he was buttering her up, but the prospect of staying in bed was just as appealing to her as it was to Ron.

“C’mon, ‘Mione,” Ron murmured, fingers creeping across Harry’s chest to stroke along her arm. “You don’t really want to leave, do you?” His voice had dropped to something deeper, huskier, and the look in his eyes never failed to stir something within her, something that burned at her insides. Harry’s fingers massaged expert circles between her shoulder blades, easing the tension there, and they both looked so tempting, still dishevelled and a light flush beginning to spread across their faces, and Hermione sighed and schooled her features to look contemplative, always happy to let them convince her in all the loveliest ways.
