Why is this news? A college history department allowing Wikipedia (or any encyclopedia) to be cited as a source, that would be news.

I've used it as a source before--on a French research paper--and the professor didn't care. :D

I think history is different though...like the research should be more rigorous. (I mean pure history; I'm assuming at least part of the focus of your class was on French.)
