Pet peeve of right now: tipping wank. Employers should pay their employees, and if they want to pass on that cost to the customer by making food more expensive (or whatever), fine. But this whole mandated "tipping custom", especially as a percentage of the cost, is the dumbest thing ever.

It does give servers incentive to "upsell" dishes so to speak...ditto on the living wage sort of service pay--food service people really get the shaft on things.

agreed. make food more expensive and waiters should get paid $8/hr instead of $2.50/hr and then you tip if they provide above average service based on how happy they make you ;).

i hate it when waiters try to sell you stuff, btw. i eat what i want... no one actually does that anyway.
