Being the rather less than tech-savvy person I am, when I find a little program I like, I tend to hug it and love it and try to hang on to it through any number of upgrades, well past what computer makers seem to think is its use-by date. I have a few of these tiny graphics programs that do one or two things I like that GIMP doesn't do, or doesn't do as well... one of which is an old Microsoft Photo Editor, which (among a few other things) has a rather nice texturising thing, where you can use your own patterns to make a 3D effect on a picture without changing the background shape of colour. Unfortunately, the program is now so old it only works on the little notebook (not sure why, it's Windows 7 just like the desktop) but at least I can work it...
Which is a long and winding (not to say whining) way to get to today's little group of textless fannish icons (or bases?) where the main effect is this playing with texturising the background, so they're not all that fancy, but I do like the look.
They are, in order, Kerr Avon (Blakes 7), Chris Larabee (Magnificent 7), Blair Sandburg (The Sentinel), Nick Cutter (Primeval), Jack O'Neill (Stargate SG1) Aaron Hotchner (Criminal Minds) and June Ellington (White Collar)
