We are constantly being surprised that people did things well before we were born.

You mean " In the olden days?" Which is my children's comment to anything I suggest was invented before their generation.

Pretty much any time in the past, I think - I know sometimes watching TV, the "gee whiz our ancestors were as intelligent as us!" gets a tad grating... especially when the ones they're discussing created our world and are rather brighter than most of us...

That's what gets me, lol! We got this far just fine without what we have now. Why the surprise?:D

Lately, I find myself being increasingly surprised at how many things I (and the world around me) did before other people were born. This is clearly a sign of aging, and I don't think I like it. :)

Umm - no, should I be?
I'm always surprised when people think that having a possession (especially one that someone else has given them) somehow proves they are superior.
On the other hand, I'm a misfit who is barely considered human, except for tax purposes.

I think it's more the impression people now sometimes give that their ancestors - not having modern technology and machinery - somehow haven't invented them because they are less in intelligent than we are... even though the ones that did invent things in their time were far brighter than the majority of us...
