I'm going to quote from a book I just read recently with the hopes that it would encourage others to also want to read it.  It's by Larry Crabb from his new book SoulTalk.

I understand what Crabb's saying and i think it's an important message, but i personally find the language he uses annoying. I can see how it would be useful to employ such terms as "SoulCare," "SelfTalk" and "SoulTalk," or to appeal to contemporary distaste with "religion" and the "old way," but i find it easier to stick with the "old" terminology and feel comfortable with knowing i am indeed religious, ergo, my faith is an integral part of my entire life.

And we think according to the language we speak. In order to change who we are as Christians and to be able to walk according to the spirit in a deeper and more meaningful way we must change the way we speak about what Christianity truly is -- come back to its truest form ( ... )

I suspect the reason he changes the language is to avoid the loaded words of the "old" terminology. Everyone has their own connotations of what many religious words mean and attach subtle meanings and weightings that are not intrinsic to the word itself, and he wants to avoid that.
