It was pointless, Kaiba knew, but he couldn't help but want to check his own Duel Disk anyway. How embarrassing it would be for Atem to go through all that testing of his own, then have it be Kaiba's that would fail when they finally dueled. Besides...the CEO rather liked tweaking his creation, especially out in the far end of the park or the forest where no one else was around.
So for once he was in the park, Duel Disk on his arm, walking to his destination. Only the dark shape in the grass nearby made him pause. He knew that tail...there was only one on the Island now, after all.
"Between the monsters and the people, it would be foolish to sleep out here in the open," He remarked dryly, loud enough to snap anyone out of a sun-induced doze. Anything deeper, he couldn't help.
The brunet's eyebrow rose slightly. The kid read Nietzsche?
"That's why I always read it while I was in public school classes," he said coolly while trying to get a better look at the cover of the book. "Still, it is not an excuse. You know better than anyone the risks of this place. And I certainly have no wish to hear the whining that will go on after another death in this place."
His gaze traveled upward to linger at Ritsuka's neck. "Or brainwashing, for that matter. That issue hasn't been finished either."
Ritsuka wasn't really surprised Kaiba read Nietzche. In fact, it was probably easier to list what Kaiba hadn't read. He stood up and dusted off any grass before picking up his book. His ears perked at Kaiba's comment before bending and pressing against his head. He wondered if Kaiba was aware of the backhanded insult and compliment. Probably.
"Yes, I know. I'll be more cautious." But then, even when he was cautious he couldn't stop it from happening.

"Kaiba-san. It wasn't meant to happen. Nietzsche's essays should be read in a stiff chair."
