It took Ichigo a while to make his way to Rukia's after the event, his insides and arms still ached furiously and it didn't seem to be letting up any time soon ( ... )

Rukia turned her head slowly when the male knocked on the door. She nodded her head lightly as his greeting. Rukia knew better than anyone that this meeting would be awkward. She had died. He had died. And they both weren't up to par. Not to mention that he was sitting so far away from her.

At least... Ichigo looked well, but seemed to be in pain. The girl wanted to reach out to him but she refrained from doing do.

Ichigo glanced over at her and offered that nervous smile that said he was trying to pretend that everything was alright. It wasn't...not at all. But it was also Christmas and in reality, Ichigo was just glad to be in her presence period.

"How...are you feelin'?" He asked, tipping his head to the side a little. He too wanted to reach out, but something inside told him not to. That he shouldn't because he was an idiot, and she deserved better then that.

It hadn't been long since she was revived, so... "I suppose I could be better." Well after crying, which she thought was completely unsightly, she felt a bit better, but the pain in her heart remained. Not from her heart being stolen, but from the weight of her mistakes and her lack of availability... especially to Ichigo.

"You..." She wanted to ask how he was doing... but she was just so unsure about everything.

"..Anything I can do to help?"

Ichigo caught on to where she was going with the 'you', and he knit his brows but kept that small smile on his face.

"I'm fine...still in a bit of pain but I'm fine. Don't worry about it."

Ichigo could sense the weight in the air, and it wasn't just coming from the older Shinigami. He too was feeling guilty despite her forgiveness. He couldn't help it, it was probably the stupidest mistake he had ever made and that was saying something. He'd really let her down by falling into that trap, at least he felt that way. Ichigo felt like he should have been there when she woke up, should have been by her side the entire time instead of going out and getting himself killed. Not only did he fail to be there for her when she needed him most, he caused her a great deal of pain too just by dying.
