Who: Szayel Aporro Granz, Open What: Arriving in the city. Where: The city streets. When: Evening, sometime after the dinner hour. Warnings: None... maybe. It is Szayel.
Suzaku usually wasn't out this late. He wasn't a very social sort so there was no reason for him to go out on his own. But they had just run out of milk and eggs at his apartment and he figured that it would be good to have them stocked back up and waiting for him and Sebastian in the morning rather than trudging to the store when he was hungry
( ... )
Suzaku's eyes widened a little as the knob dropped heavily onto the floor and then rolled a small distance. He set down his groceries and went to retrieve the object.
"Oh dear...that's not very good," Suzaku murmured, picking the knob up and looking at the damage to the door. Though the knob had come off, the door itself would not move. Doors in this place worked differently, he supposed. He tried fitting the knob back in but it was as if it had been snapped off and without the proper tools, it would be impossible to fix.
"Erm, would you like to come back to my place after all?" he asked as he tore a piece off a grocery bag and started writing an apology note to afix to the door.
"It would seem that I am lacking in alternative choices," Szayel replied, eyes narrowing as he watched the human flitting about. Well, he supposed it was for the best; the boy seemed like the type that cleaned up after others messes. If any of the shinigami sensed or spotted him and came after him, at least he would provide an adequate distraction, if a short lived one.
"That is true. I could fix up the couch for you if you need to spend some time there. It folds out into a bed. My place isn't too far from here so it will just be a few more minutes," Suzaku said as he finished with his note and picked up his groceries again.
Szayel had to bite his tongue to keep him from saying that would hardly be necessary. Even if he required sleep, considering his work habits, it would be doubtful that he would be able to sleep anyway. The less the human knew, the better, however, and he merely gave him a curt nod.
Suzaku gave the other a small smile. He figured that the other was moody about not being able to get into his own apartment.
"I'll give you your privacy. And I'll make sure Sebastian knows too. Don't worry. You'll be back in your place before you know it," he reassured Szayel as they walked along. They soon came to the apartment unit and Suzaku fished out his key to unlock the door. He shifted the groceries to one arm and opened the door for Szayel to step inside.
Szayel did so, ignoring Suzaku and his load in favor of casting a dispassionate eye about the apartment. Privacy indeed; he could not see how that would be possible. Hopefully it would only be for one night, and he could get this ridiculous mess sorted out when humans were normally awake. What annoying creatures... he was going to have to make a meal of one later to ease his frustration over the whole situation.
"Would you like any tea or something to eat? I've already had some dinner with my roommate but I could quickly make something if you are hungry," Suzaku said as he went into the kitchen to put things away.
"Oh. Alright then. If you do need anything, just help yourself later," Suzaku said as he wandered back to the living room to hang up his coat. He earned enough monies each day from slaying the monsters in the forest so it hardly mattered if he had to get enough food for two or three people even if he split the profits with Lelouch.
Szayel managed a soft, "Hm," of acknowledgment, deciding to take the previously offered couch. He had been on his feet most of the day, after all... and his poor uniform was mussed up from the dirt he had been laying in, and there was a small smidgen of blood here and there from the monster whose head he had bitten off...
Wonderful, on top of everything else, he was going to need to attain proper attire in this place.
Suzaku finally noticed the traces of blood on the other's clothing and face. He did not draw attention to it but was becoming a little uneasy. Was that what Szayel had meant when he said that he "had a meal before arriving"? It seemed so strange when the man himself seemed very reserved. Suzaku silently prayed that he had not just let in a psychopath. That would be bad for Sebastian.
"You must be tired so I'll let you settle in. The bathroom's over there on the right. I just put out clean towels so feel free to wash yourself. And I can let you borrow some clothes to sleep in," he said.
Szayel was already settled in as far as he was concerned. The couch was mundane and had a funny smell (or perhaps that was just essence of human clinging to everything), but it was almost as comfortable as his beloved desk chair back home. He could easily lean back and reach out, feeling out every bit of reiatsu in range, get a sense of all the humans about to settle down to sleep, while some of the strangers feeling ones... woke up? How odd... He filed the information away in his head, anxious to study it...
Or at least he would, if this human ever stopped talking.
"My uniform will suffice," Szayel replied stiffly, before frowning slightly. Well... "An uninterrupted morning bath and a change of attire would be welcome, however."
Why Szayel would want to sleep in his dirty uniform was beyond Suzaku (actually, the whole outfit was beyond his understanding as well) but he gave a nod.
"Alright. I'll get something for you from my closet and I'll let Sebastian know that you're here so he doesn't stumble into the bathroom on accident in the morning," he said. Suzaku would have invited Szayel to pick out an outfit himself but since Suzaku hid the Zero costume inside the closet, it was too much of a risk no matter how far back it was buried.
Szayel nodded. "That is acceptable," he replied dismissively. He suspected the human would not go away if he just stayed there with his eyes open, so he let out a soft sigh, putting on a show of settling down to sleep.
Suzaku watched as Szayel made himself comfortable on the couch and promptly fall asleep. The man must have been tired...from whatever he was doing before. He sent Sebastian a quick note on his L337Pod about the situation, warning him to lock the door to his room when he slept (just in case) and to not disturb their guest while he was there.
He then went to his room, picked out some clothing that he hoped fit Szayel's size and taste, and lay them on the coffee table before retreating back to his own room for the night.

"No; I had a meal before arriving here," he replied, idly wondering if the Quincy recovered by now. Most likely; how unfortunate...
