Who: Kuchiki Rukia and Kurosaki Ichigo What: Updating her on what's going on, talking about the fight When: October 27th, afternoon Where: Rukia's place Warnings: Spoilers, a LITTLE bit of emoing and some potential fighting?
She had been resting up until that point. Once she heard the knock on the door, she opened her eyes slowly. Still a bit in a daze, her gaze went over to the door. Someone... was there? "Come in," her soft voice rang.
Ichigo's head snapped back in her direction for the second time this night, his eyes widening in surprise just like before. He hadn't been expecting that from her...somehow he imagined she'd be mad at him, not asking him NOT to leave.
The look on her face, it made his heart ache a little. Before he'd felt like it would have been better to have been gone, but now he felt guilty for ever feeling that way.
Ichigo knit his brows and reached over to take one of those hands, giving a gentle squeeze.
She felt his hand on hers and Rukia brought herself to look up at Ichigo. She nodded, her face slightly downcast. "Do not... blame yourself for what happened to me. I-- I said I would protect you and I hesitated... again..." The last word was barely audible.
There was that look of surprise again and Ichigo swallowed hard. He couldn't not blame himself for what happened, and he couldn't blame her either.
"Rukia...don't. Don't you dare blame yourself! I was the one who agreed to fight with you without my bankai, I shoulda just shut the hell up and let it go!"
She said nothing out his outburst for a moment. She slipped her hand away from his. "Nothing's changed since then. It was... as if... everything was repeating. I couldn't move...
Ichigo was moving before he could stop himself, shifting to turn around to face her. He placed one hand on the bed and leaned in, capturing her lips with his.
The heat rose to his face almost immediately and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He wanted to pull away as quickly as he'd leaned in to kiss her, but for some reason he couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Wh--" Rukia never got to finish her sentence. A flash of orange hair was all she saw before the distance closed between them. It was surreal. Deep inside she felt like she had been waiting for this moment, but now? It was definitely of the unexpected. She looked at Ichigo with shock for a moment, her body almost tensing up. Soon after, she was able to relax and close her eyes.
Unfortunately as soon as Rukia relaxed, Ichigo was pulling away. His eyes were wide and he blushed deeply, looking away.
"S-sorry. I don't know what the hell came over me and I shouldn't have and..."
He trailed off, inwardly wanting to hit himself in the face. Ichigo didn't know why the hell he'd done that really, but something in the way she'd said she was sorry made him move on his own. All he knew was that he didn't want her to blame herself for what happened, and he didn't want her to dwell on the past anymore either. Rukia was already too hard on herself for whatever happened with Kaien, he couldn't be okay with her bashing herself for what happened with HIM too. He just wanted her to be happy for once, and at that very moment it seemed like a kiss was the right thing to give her.
She still kept her eyes closed as she sighed. Slowly they opened, a finger touching her lips. That left an impression, that's for sure. "I-- It's all right." Rukia didn't know why, but she now found herself stumbling over her words.
"I just....don't want you to blame yourself any more. The past...it's the past and...I don't.."
Ichigo paused and took a deep breath. He was never good at this whole gushing feelings thing. The orange haired teen squeezed his eyes shut and looked away. Even if she said it was alright, he was still embarrassed.
"I don't want you to hurt anymore, Rukia. You...you deserve to be happy."
"Why should that change anything. We are the same people from when we stepped into this place. No one, no one should feel alone." She thought back on her days when she was younger. She couldn't remember being abandoned by her own flesh and blood, but it happened. Not to mention the losing of her friends, minus Renji. Only soon after to be taken away from Renji into a unfamiliar place. It seemed everything turned around and upside down when she met Ichigo.
She didn't want to relive those feelings, nor put anyone through it.

Wasn't he the one that said he wouldn't leave her alone?

She said nothing for a second. The second may have seemed like minutes though.
"I believe that goes for you as well."

"I...you really think so...? Even after everything that's happened since we got here?"
