He left his apartment after a quick and simple breakfast, having slept in a bit, dressed in his hakama and carrying his archery bag over his shoulder. Walking through the early noon, he paused to tilt his head back and feel the sun shine on his face for a few moments, trying to find a calm peaceful center. His hands were still shaking, his head throbbing in a way he'd almost gotten used to. At least accustomed to.

Making his way down to the houses, where he'd started his tenure on Salkia Island, he found Kunogi sitting on the front step of her house dressed in casual, comfortable clothing, her hair tied back, and without Tanpopo. Lifting his free hand in a greeting, he walked up to her and offered it to her, a hand up from the steps. She was smiling again, looking cheerful, the usual facade that he was used to by now.

"Good morning." he said, ducking his head, hand still extended to her.

As she saw him coming up towards her, her smile grew seeing him. Really, she was worried and wondering how he was doing. She hadn’t seen him since the night of the fancy dinner that Ichijou-kun invited them to and although that went fine and smartly it was a different air there. She couldn’t question and pick at him all to well there. Not that she pushed at him often anyhow, but she was, in fact, still worried.

There was word that he made a promise to Ichijou-kun about one month, and she was so proud of him for getting through one weak with out drinking, but she wondered what that was doing for him at the moment.

“Good morning to you as well, Doumeki-kun!” she said ever so politely and cheerfully, her hand hesitating for a moment, as if she forgot who she was reaching out for, but then reached out, slipping her hand into his, holding her things well with her other hand and arm, and stood up.

Smiling she looked up at him, head tilting and asked, “how are you feeling?”

She hesitated for a moment before she put her hand in his, and he knew why, so he brushed it off without much thought. Closing his fingers around her hand, he tugged on it to give her some leverage so she could get off the step, and released it after giving it a quick little squeeze. Dropping his hand to the side, he did what he'd taken to doing and closed it into a fist to hide the shaking, ducking his head again.

She was hiding behind her smiles and chipperness, he knew, but for now he decided to just let it be. For now.

Nodding a bit at her greeting, he considered his answer before giving it. He was alright. Maybe a little sleep-deprived, maybe a little shaky and headachey from the alcohol withdrawals, maybe a little tired down to his bones, but he was alright. He had the feeling he would be alright, as soon as he could find some new direction to go in.

He summed it all up in a couple of words, as usual, "I'm fine." and then, "You?"

Fine. That was what she thought he would say. That he was fine. He would no doubt find that her replay to his question would be no different. She dusted her rear off a bit as he had let her hand go, then held her bow, arrows and glove set tightly in both arms, almost like a hug. She beamed up at the man. “I’m fine ( ... )

Of course she'd say the same thing. Both of them had their masks, it was one of the things they had the most in common. Not given to sharing a lot, not by choice, and yet they often seemed to understand each other better than other people seemed to understand them. Maybe it was just the familiarity of masks.

Glancing over at her, he nodded, intending to get more than 'fine' out of her later on, just as she probably intended to push more out of him. She made the first move, though, asking him how he was really doing, and then mentioning his promise to Ichijou to not drink.

His eyes skimmed to the side, away from her, and he started moving without a sound, heading towards the Rec Center where the archery range was. He'd been there several times since he got his bow and arrows, and it was passable, if not perfect for kyudo like the dojo at their school ( ... )
