Trying to study for my grooming test tomorrow with little result, the stuff is pretty straight forward and what I don't know is so painfully dry it almost hurts to read it

Awww.. well that was not meant to rush you, just to remind you if you had the time. *ss*
Heh.. i was ready to do that to one of the cats that jumped on my bed this morning BEFORE the alarm went off. But now i am curious, what gland is that?
Dogs and cats have tow anal sacs/glands on either side of their actual butt. Sometimes you can see the two little holes on either side. The actul gland is about the size of a pea/kidney bean. Usually an animal can empty the gland themselves when they go to the bathroom but not always. If you squeeze on either side of the glands you can expell what's in them. It's this kinda thick goo that smells pretty awful but it's actully a really good thing to do every few months or so cause impacted or overful glands can lead to all kinds of problems, even behavioural problems with dogs and cats. I do Logan's regularly cause he lets me but I'd never tried doing Mona till last night. She was not impressed but in the end it's good for her. If the glands get too full they can become impacted and even rupture. If though your animal's rectal area is swollen or really red you shouldn't try anything yourself and bring them to your vet. For dogs who are groomed regularly you can usually ask you groomer to do it, hence how I learned the proper technique
