FanPlusFriend review - 3 dresses

Jan 15, 2017 01:06

It seems there aren't many recent reviews of FanPlusFriend. They have changed quite a bit during the last years. I know many people don't like them but for me they have been consistently good. There were one or two things I didn't quite like the fit on me and ended up selling them, others that needed a little fix here and there, but most of the time the fit is spot on. I always order custom size, otherwise things may be too short on me, even if by the other measurements they should fit. Also because I like my skirts to be knee length and by being tall this can be problematic.

Well, enough talk. I recieved this order two weeks ago. Not a "big haul" as you call them, I can't spend that much and if something would happen to them in the mail...

So just three dresses: The "Musical Palmer II", "The Whale Bones Bay-Jug Treasure" and the "Machine Birdcage" JSKs. The classical mail package, usually grey, now in white. This is how it arrived. Since the bag can be BADLY damaged during the trip (once it had NASTY cuts that almost reached the clothes) I always ask F+F to use double bags. They went beyond that as you'll see.

Another white bag inside, looks good.

With the two white ones out, a brown F+F tote bag appears. From storing clothes to doing the groceries, useful for everything.

Not one... two bags. Great. I already have quite a number of them and I'm not complaining, I have all my bags needs covered :P. Excellent packaging, beyond what I requested. This time there was no damage on the outer bag, still, better safe than sorry.

Finally the dresses show up. One comes inside a box. One apparently intended for their silk products. Nice box anyway, you can't have enough protection, hehe. I can barely take the pics with my urge to open the bags...

And here is the Musical Palmer II

What can I say... it's AWESOME. For a plus-sized loli to be able to have these kind of prints, it's amazing. The fabric is what they call "imported thick moss crepe", it's thick, has a nice texture and feels just perfect for this kind of dress. They used this fabric in a number of other pieces too.

It comes with an undetachble shawl which steps the dress up a bit and a detechable overskirt. The ensemble also comes in mint+white. It's usually hard for me to choose colors, but for this print the darker combination was the way to go. Then it's your regular JSK with a zipper on one side and corset lacing on the back. Fits perfectly on me. I love classical music (and ballet) so I specially adore this print.

Finally you have the choker and a pendant with a little harp in the middle, can be used on the front or attached to the overskirt.

On to the second dress, "The Whale Bones Bay-Jug Treasure"

It's "Gothic Pirate Steampunk" according to F+F. From their description: "The claret jugs are images authorized by jug collector in Austria, and words from The Emerald Tablet. We also put some original details: The sword & store, hinting as the guard and the treasure; The interior of the jugs, a different space & time from the exterior". I always liked this print with the jugs and now I decided to get it. There are two dresses using it, but one can't be custom made, so there's no choosing here for me (but I think I like this design more anyway).

The pointy false vest type of thing adds a distinctive look and that type of lace along the border in golden and red is lovely. On mine there were two little loose golden threads in one part. The top border of the bodice is made with plastic thingies with a metallic look. It makes for a great finish. The skirt is a thick jacquard and the bodice "blister crepe". Again, both fabrics feel really good. The vest thing has two fake leather straps with a buckle to adjust length at the shoulder and waist on the side. There's a zipper on the back. As the previous dress I have no complains about the fit.

Lastly there's the "Machine Birdcage" steampunk JSK with an undetachable "false" vest

This dress was released after I made the order for the other two, so I had it added to my purchase as soon as it was available. F+F had no problems with this and didn't affect the making time.

This was another of the prints I wanted for some time, it was featured previously on a skirt and/or another dress, but those couldn't be made longer (plus size yes, longer no) and that's where I have most problems with lolita. Still, I was lucky it turned out this way because I like this design way more than the previous ones. I love how it looks with the vest. The dress is made with the same type of jacquard as the jugs one. The vest is made of a "thick linen/cotton blend", as it says, it's heavy. Feels excellent as everything else.

It comes with a real leather belt with a nice patterned buckle, very kawaii. The belt is a limited item for the first orders. I'd say it's a must to match with the dress, also because there's nothing to adjust on the waist part if not for the belt.

Note that I forgot to take pics of the inside or the inside seams (except the one to show the other side of the jacquard). Nothing to see actually, everything is sewn well and neat, nothing is messed up and everything is properly constructed. No lose threads, not in these three dresses at least except the golden ones I mentioned. And in the case there were (had happened previously, one or two) it's nothing that can't be cut and forget about it.

Hope you liked it. Anything you want to ask just go ahead ^^

I have quite a lot of F+F things that I never reviewed. I can do them if you're interested (at least the things that are still for sale)

Next time I'm bringing two Eat Me Ink Me skirts. The shop owner surely is lovely <3
