WOW. It is easy to act like this toward people in your life (not being around, being a friend at your own convenience, etc), but as a priest, that's the job description. I am so sorry to hear that your family wasn't treated better. I'd say they should chalk it up to that priest and find a new church to attend. Good for your mom to say something though. All too often people just stop doing things without taking the time to talk the problems out first. I'll pray for your family.
