I've said this before, but I love the reticence in this relationship; the care with which the two of them approach each other, trying to learn as much as they can before each small step forwards. The vision of Mycroft in his fur lined cloak and his retinue of knights and his ring with the poison in it just rings so true I had to laugh when I read it--it's perfect for him!
You always have so many small touches that give your stories atmosphere: the lime flavoured water, the strip of cloth, the way Greg's finger hovers over the page--I'm really enjoying this side branch of the Other Experiments series. I hope you continue it.
Well, he's grown up with suits of armour on men and horses around him, it would have had to affect his youthful fancy, don't you think? His adult fancy, too, you say? I do believe he has seen another knight.;-)
After I read your comment, I went back and changed fur-trimmed to fur-lined. It's even more covert. OK, it would still probably show around the edges, but the image is even more sensuous. Oh, I just had an idea of Mycroft reading "La Morte d'Arthur" to Lestrade some dark and stormy night.
I've grown very fond of Mycroft and Lestrade and with all the challenges Series 3 poses to John/Sherlock developments, it is a more serene place to explore!
I'm nodding along with absolutely everything elmey said... Such a delicious and beautifully crafted little moment, from the log in the hearth to the lime-flavoured water to the poison in the ring - just gorgeous thoughts and pictures and details. Thank you!
I love your icon! Have I seen this one before? Is it an Easter snail?
I am so pleased you like it. :-) It is such a tiny thing (seems to be all I can manage this year so far!), but the idea just bloomed when I saw that manuscript page and when I tried to write down a sentence or two about it, it became a scene between Greg and Mycroft. They needed a few more interactions to pave the way for what I want to follow Safer anyway, I think.
