Yes! You did it! And it's wonderful. *beams* It works beautifully - it could easily stand by itself, but as the balance to John in Untitled Documents it's perfect.

And why do I always seem to hold my breath when I read your writing? (Though obviously I must breathe now and then, but still *g*). I think it's a combination of anticipation, and not wanting to disturb the atmosphere you create - you really draw me into the story.

Just lovely, thank you.

Oh! *clapping and bouncing* I'm so thrilled you feel it works. It was a good idea to try, but to attempt to be in Sherlock's head was a big challenge. I've been listening to some interviews with Moffat, Gatiss and Cumberbatch and that helped and gave me a couple ideas about other things, too.

It's interesting what you say about anticipation. I usually listen to music when I write, mostly classical and I wonder if the structure of the pieces get into the words. Here I was referring to the quartet explicitly, but perhaps the build up of tension in the music gets in even when I don't. Whatever the explanation, I'm delighted with your observation. You know the encouraging words work miracles for inspiration! :D

Thank you!!! ♥

I recently read a short fic that I think you would appreciate very much, called Fo(u)nd Poetry (http://sariagray.livejournal.com/127128.html).

Saki, this is incredible! :D I loved it, it was so methodical, like Sherlock himself.

I like how you have woven the music into this story. My own personal head canon is, as you know, Sherlock feels too much, and so he tries to not feel at all. My idea is that he releases his emotions through music. I absolutely adore the idea that Sherlock is trying to determine what sort of music John would be, and being at a sort of loss there. It works perfectly, since while he knows John and can deduce anyone, at any time, the idea of John still being a sort of mystery because of his enormous capacity to trust Sherlock is fantastic to me. :) I also like the idea that, to Sherlock, a musical composition of John would contain major and minor keys - the fullness of the spectrum - which would reflect how he feels about John. That he adds fullness to his life, in some way, even if he refuses to admit it to anyone (including himself).

Anyway, as usual, it's beautiful and wonderful and you are a genius, my darling. *bows*

Well, this was a delight to wake up to! I am grinning ear to ear!!

My own personal head canon is, as you know, Sherlock feels too much, and so he tries to not feel at all. My idea is that he releases his emotions through music.

I am in total accord with this. The way he notices everything, the bombardment of stimuli would be very hard to handle without some barrier/filter, then again, the reactions would have to come out somehow. Music is a perfect soltuion, its infinite expressiveness still confimed within its mathematical structure. (Did you have a chance to listen to the quartet? Ideally, both fics should be read with that playing in the background.)

Thank you again! :D

1) thank you for the link, I'll add it to my "to-read" list. :)

2) Yes, I did listen to the piece. I love string classical pieces as a general rule, so of course I enjoyed it immensely. I thought it was a beautiful work and it mirrored what Sherlock was feeling perfectly, I thought.

3) You're very welcome! I'm so happy you're writing in the Sherlock fandom.

saw the music title and had to take a look. what a delight! love how you handled both the use of the music as a backstory/framework tool as well as how it made a lovely sound track in my mind as i read. could ♥!quote a bunch of it all at you as well as truly they captured/created the essence of what it means to turn word into evocative image. starting with "John’s rhythm is off." there was perfect notation of what sherlock would be knowing. and then following it all as he uses his music to both show what he is feeling/thinking as well as is hoping will be revealed. that that was all done while subtly weaving series2 canon into the storyline deserves kudos as well. lovely job. really lovely!

So pleased the title tempted you! Positive and detailed feedback like this is like ambrosia and I am, perhaps, more than a little intoxicated by it. I am delighted that you enjoyed the music as a soundtrack (that's how I was hoping readers would use it) and felt the different strands of the fic worked together! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. ♥

r34dinglight sent your story as a recommendation to me, as I am always lamenting and asking for music stories...and I got a fantastic one! I really liked your Sherlock POV, as well as the way you worked the music into the story. I very much am with you that Sherlock uses his music to express his emotions. Thank you as well for the youtube link so we could all enjoy the music while reading your fabulous fic! I look forward to reading more of your work!

I just thanked r34dinglight for her kind recommendation! I am so pleased it pleased. It was daunting to write from Sherlock's POV; I am relieved that it seemed credible especially about how he uses his music. As you can imagine, I wrote the story listening to the String Quartet and was hoping people might read it that way, too. I am delighted that that was the case!

I have only recently begun writing Sherlock fic, so I don't have any other musical stories in this fandom. If you were willing to have a read in another fandom I do though. (Just in case you wished to have a look the first part (500 words) of Third is here.)

Many thanks for reading and commenting!

So far this is my favourite Sherlock fic of yours. You have the most amazing rhythm to your works, the word choice always perfect and thought-provoking. I do love it when you write of music, I just felt as though I were actually listening to this while reading :) The insight was delightful as well. The Hound of Baskervilles, while a wonderful ep, did in my mind have holes which you have landscaped to become mountains of thought.

I was thinking of you the other day when I posted this because you always liked the fics with a musical connection. :D Did you have a chance to listen to the video of the String Quartet? It's such a beautiful piece and the video is such an interesting and useful visual, showing the different movements and the themes. I stumbled upon it and was very happy that I did!

Hounds, as you can see, sort of tormented me with all the hints that needed exploring.

I am so pleased that you liked the rhythm. I may do another part from Sherlock's point of view at some point. I think being in his head had something to do with the rhythm of it.

Thank you again!

You were? :3 You just have a knack for music, I think! I did listen to it, on my second reading, and it honestly moved me. I'll have to check out the accompanying vid as well.

You certainly increased my and broadened my understanding of Hounds! Pointed out all these little clues which I had missed upon first watching.

Sherlock appeared very comfortable in your writing style... I do hope you write more!

I was! And I'm so pleased you liked the music, it is so beautiful.

On the subject of beauty and music, here's a link to a Sherlock vid that I think you will very much appreciate (http://sherlockbbc.livejournal.com/3999303.html#cutid1).

I probably will write more, I seem to be a bit possessed by it lately! (Mind, I haven't forgotten our other darlings :D)
