Mischief in the Mind

Luke couldn’t stop laughing, his belly ached and tears were streaming down his cheeks.  His one hand on the pool table and the other on the pool cue kept him from falling on the floor.  That was a good thing since Yo’s floor was not the cleanest on a good day.

“I’m serious dude, it really happened.  It amazes me the shit that goes on in the hospital,” Casey told Luke, chuckling and happy to see Luke laughing and smiling.

It had been two weeks since the epic Luke and Noah break-up and it was going strong.  Noah had expected to have Luke groveling back but Luke was strangely less affected this time around.  Everyone figured that Luke had finally had enough of Noah’s bullshit, and although that was true, Luke also had something or rather someone else on his mind.  Who happened to walk into Yo’s sending Luke into more peals of laughter.

Reid looked over in surprise and hastily looked away and asked the bartender for a beer.  Casey had been telling Luke about Reid’s incident with Henry who had come in with a sprained wrist stuck in a silver champagne ice bucket.

“What happened Hank?  Did you have a fight with a bottle of champagne?” Reid had asked with his typical snark.

“No Dr. Evil? Don’t they have someone else that can help me?” Henry asked looking towards the door of the exam room.

“Since you like to by-pass the ER like all normal patients you get stuck with me,” Reid replied unapologetically, “So what’s wrong?”

Henry pulled his hand out of the bucket, “I hurt my hand fixing something at Al’s,” Henry lied, he wasn’t about to tell Reid about his argument with Barbara Ryan and how his hand got caught in the door as she slammed it shut in his face.

“Uh-huh, sure Hank and that’s why it looks like a mark from something closing on it and pinching the skin,” Reid observed with an eyebrow quirked in doubt as he squeezed gently, moving each finger and rubbing the wrist.

Henry swallowed hard and said shakily, “Wh..what are you doing?”

Reid looked up into Henry’s face and almost burst out laughing at the look of apprehension on Henry’s face, “I’m checking to see if anything is broken.  Why, what did you think I was doing, Hank?” Reid asked huskily, trying to keep a straight face.

Henry stammered and blushed, “I, I don’t know you seem to be caressing my hand and wrist.”

Reid finally lost it, squeezing Henry’s hand hard, “If I was coming on to you Hank, we’d already by flat on the exam table,” he chuckled confidently.

“OUCH!!” Henry cried out, embarrassed and relieved, “Think you’re pretty funny don’t you mister, we’ll see how funny you are if I sue you for malpractice,” he shot back.

Reid scoffed in reply, “What for treating you like a moron?  You are, and what are you wearing?”

Henry huffed in response, “Fine, so what’s wrong with it, sprained? Broken?”
“Hmmm,” Reid said acting more doctor-like but Henry, didn’t see the spark of mischief in Reid’s blue eyes, “Does it hurt when you do this?” he asked putting his fingers his hands together and bending them back.

“Fuck! Ow!” Henry cried out trying to mimic Reid’s movement.

Reid looked up into Henry’s face and deadpanned,” Then don’t do that Hank.”

Henry’s jaw dropped open and it took him a few attempts to finally speak, “You’re not a doctor, you’re a masochist,” he spluttered.

“No, I’m a neurosurgeon not a fucking massage therapist, because that’s all you need, just some exercises to keep it moving,” Reid shook his head in disgust as he walked to the door.

“That’s it you’re not going to bandage it or give me pain killers?” Henry asked incredulously.

“Nope, Hank, just be careful with it, keep it in the ice bucket until the swelling goes down and then the martini’s you drink should help with the pain, just don’t use that had to drink with,” Reid replied with a smirk the door open so everyone in the hall heard.

As he walked out on a sputtering Henry, he saw Casey Hughes, standing and looking away but his shoulders were shaking with laughter.

“Something wrong Baby Hughes?” Reid asked sarcastically.

Casey turned trying to compose his face but failing as he smiled and snorted, “No, no I’m fine Dr. Oliver.”

Casey had been telling Luke a number of stories and hearing about Henry thinking Reid was hitting on him was hilarious.  Luke’s brown eyes still filled with laughter caught Reid’s blue-eyed amused stare.  Reid couldn’t help it, but the smile and hearing Luke laugh had caught him completely off guard, much like the night a few weeks ago.

“Something funny Mr. Snyder?” Reid finally asked looking at Luke’s smiling face and disheveled hair, he must’ve been running his fingers through it.

“I’m sorry Dr. Oliver, but what happened with Henry Coleman was hysterical.  How could he ever think you’d hit on him,” Luke chuckled, taking a deep breath trying to compose himself.

“You don’t think Hank’s my type?” Reid asked seriously, but those blue eyes twinkled and Luke knew he was teasing.

He looked Reid up and down, and finally met those blue eyes, “I know your type Dr. Oliver and it’s not Henry Coleman.”

Casey looked back and forth between Luke and Reid knowing his was missing something, “Ah, Luke, we better get going if we want to catch that movie,” he finally said.

“Coming Case,” Luke replied and then nodded towards Reid, “Who knew you were such a funny guy, Dr. Oliver.”

“Maybe one day you’ll find out how funny I can be,” Reid replied huskily.

Luke smiled and gave Reid an unexpected reply, “I’ll look forward to that,” and once again Reid watched that pert ass walk out of the bar, knowing full well that Luke had put his hands in his pockets to hide the tell tale bulge and show his ass off to Reid.

“Brat”, Reid muttered as he shifted on the stool, to try and relieve the pressure in his own jeans.
