Aww...so very sad, even with Gojyo's little hope at the end (because it's really not going to be better and we all know that *sniffle*)

Very nicely written. Very, very sad. Poor Gojyo has no allies at all other than Jien, does he? I really like the way you showed him having aspirations and daydreams involving math skills and then showed him smashing down those ambitions after being penalized by a teacher who didn't realize that he was so far ahead in the subject he was becoming bored. It... er, reminded me a bit of, well... Lets just say, I could identify with that one.
It is wonderful how he clings to that childlike optimism which I don't think Gojyo ever really grew out of. Or maybe he did for a bit, but I think he got it back after he met Hakkai. Anyway, I ramble. But this was lovely.
