Hakkai art WIP - opinions plz?

Okay, so, if anybody remembers this pic of Gojyo, this is intended to be a companion piece. Hence the similar poses (though I totally didn't realize the pose was so close to this pic until I went searching my hard drive for facial references. I swear I didn't do it on purpose.), collars, etc. And also 8/5 day is coming up. *coughs*
Aaaaaanyway. I'm just putting this up for some feedback while it's still in the WIP stage. The background (if you can call it that haha) will be similar to the Gojyo pic. The collar in the Gojyo pic is a not-veiled-at-all reference to Louiselux's fic Attachment; the collar in this one is a slightly-less-overt reference to emungere's fic Home from the Sea, Home from the Hill, which I must admit has been my favorite 85 fic since, well, it feels like forever. It was the fic that made the pairing for me. I've been owing her fanart for it for a long, long time.
So my main question is, should I go with 'normal' Hakkai (which was the original conception in the rough version in my sketchbook), or the idea I had a few minutes ago - slightly-longish hair and veryvery faint vine markings on the skin, like he's missing a limiter or two? And does anyone see anything terribly off about this, while it's still soon enough to easily fix? Any other feedback is of course welcome as well.
