Murdoc checks the message on the phone, figuring it's someone calling for Liz and that he should give her the message. Maybe even give her the phone back.
Surprise surprise. Guess calls need making. He lets it ring and kinda hopes she didn't just leave the message while drunk or something. It's what he would have done.

Clay and Georgeanna are over in Mt. Union helping get this huge field ready for a big Christian music festival they attend every year. They don't usually make Liz go, although they get real happy if she shows up for a night or two.

So she's by herself in the house and she's been fielding calls all day from people who want Clay to landscape things for them. At this point she's screening calls, so when the phone rings she almost doesn't pick it up.

Oh, look at that. Her cellphone is calling her. She chokes on her Pepsi. After a lot of hacking and sputtering, she manages to get to the phone just before it stops ringing. "...hey."

Damn. She answers.. It takes a beat for Muds to get his bearings. This conversation is a good thing. It has to be.
"Hey. Kinda surprised t'get yer message. You um...you prob'ly want yer phone back soon, huh? Sorry about that."

Christ, she's so tired of this awkwardness, all these meandering pockets of painful silence in their conversation. She isn't sure what to do about it, but she's going to give it a shot. "Yeah, you know, whenever you get the chance."

Oh, there's one of those pauses already. "I wanted to get a chance to talk to you more at prom, but we left kind of early...you looked like you were having a good time, though."
