I've had that same problem with UPs and others for *years*. Often it's a matter of my taking a nap or something and not being able to roll out of bed, pull on some pants, and get down the hall and down the stairs before they boogie.

My solution was to print up a sign that I tape on the inside of the huge window in the building door:

FEDEX / UPS

If you are making a delivery for Apartment 6, I am home. But it takes me a few minutes to get downstairs.

The first part is in a font that's about 4 inches high. The rest is only an inch high.

It works.

I suspect that part of the reason it works is that they know that if they *don't* wait with that on the door, they'll get a nasty call to their boss.

The gaming ones tend to let you assign the oddly located buttons with various commands and shortcuts used in the favorite game, to allow the ordinarily five-key "bash enemy over head with beer barrel" command to be executed with a little wiggle of the pinky finger, or similar.
