My strategy has always been to pay off everything I could first. Fewer payments are better than more payments, at least to me. So I paid off small balances completely, as quickly as possible, then combined the money for those payments to make larger payments on the next largest balances. Paying off, and closing or retiring the account means less temptation for me.
The reverse, or some other strategy may work best for you.
Yup, your strategy is usually what I use. I might leave one of the samller balances open because then I can pay it off in a couple of months, where the other ones would take me much longer than that even with larger payments. So, two medium balances paid in full. Same effect, more or less. Now, I'm just waiting for the blinking money to get here.
