Wildlife report

All the at-work sightings have been skunks. And more skunks. Or a skunk that really gets around. Along paths, in campsites and checking out the foundation of both the Mansion and the warehouse...both of which probably seem real inviting as they obviously, as there was otherwise snow that night, leaking a shitload of heat. I love having wildlife around again. We have deer and antelope. I drove into town yesterday and saw a herd of dear laying down under some trees, near an old wagon. They looked like part of the yard fixtures, I swear. I've seen some skunks, but sadly, they were on the road. I've seen 2 kinds of fox and have heard, but not seen yet, coyotes. Numerous hawks, but they seem to have left for the winter. Ducks are flying through now. And the glorious Sandhill Cranes, for whom I have a special affection. Owls, I can't forget them. It's just wonderful. We had wildlife at our first place in NM, but we hardly had any last year.

I imagine the wildlife didn't like the power lines much either. Yes, I forgot to mention the owl hooting...don't see it though. Actually, I caught a quick glimpse of a big white wingspan over head when driving to work a couple of weeks ago. From work, in the morning, awhile back I also saw a Great Blue Heron. Aaron's seen one on the pond. I miss most of the activity of geese, ducks and herons these days....I'm sleeping. So I don't even know if the geese went back through and are gone already or not. I hear the coywolves quite a bit these days too, because they pack upnow.....on the other hand, I no longer hear the loons out on the lake.

Loons! I love loons. I still remember seeing and hearing them on First Connecticut Lake (I think) a few years ago when I learned to canoe. Early morning after an incredible thunderstorm the night before, cool, foggy. It was incredible!

I have seen owls down at our creek, both sitting in a tree and one flew by me the other day. They are so incredible - so big and so silent.

As long as those butts aren't in the air and aimed at me or anything in the vicinity. ~;p
