"Iris" was written for that movie. It's supposed to be his feelings for her as told by Nicholas Cage. City of Angels was actually a remake of a German film and Nicholas Cage's character was actually the angel of death.

Beautiful movie. Beautiful song. I first saw it on the big screen and after the movie I went in the ladies room and everybody was sobbing and grabbing toilet paper and laughing because they couldn't stop crying.
