Sadly, people are wrapped in their own little universe and don't take these things into account. Most of the people alive today will probably not have to face a threat of this magnitude but what about their children and their grandchildren? It's a selfish way to exist but living here and now seems to work for most, and that is why most people don't give a shit. And they should.
What if by some miracle the human race survives all these threats and their own destructive nature? Five billion years from now or so, the Sun is set to expands into a red giant. Humans won't survive the first roasting and the Sun eventually will eventually rip planet Earth into rubble with gravity.
Goodbye mankind, no one will ever know you existed. All your rich history and culture will go kaboom and no one will ever know.
I'm all for space exploration. But like I said, most people just don't care... *sad face*
