still not a post about Distant Worlds/Expo! Well, it can be. A bit. Or at least, it could if I didn't feel like rambling about graphics and nano procrastination, lolol

Hee, thanks~! I'm planning on doing a fuckton of icons, so I'll probably post them in the comm once I'm done :D (possibly with some zips of recoloured screencaps, if anyone'd be interested?)
I wonder if the pixelly bit is cos of the video quality. But I can't do much about that, since the poor laptop won't play HQ mkv. ALAS.
Yeah, there's a TON of people doing nano this year! It's weird, heh.
Alas, no new tumblr friends for me XD I was shocked to find that the Crowley/Sheppard fandom on there is actually a bit bigger than on lj, I think. Or at least, there's more image-posting anyway. Which I always approve of XDD
Ooooo logoless, that's awesome! *joins comm immediately* :D
re: tumblr - I'm not going to try and persuad- OH WHO AM I KIDDING. It is fun and bloody addictive XD if you make an account and you should :D, I'm sai-deseisens on there.
Do you know if there's an alternative to New Adjustment Layer from Photoshop (I used CS2 back then)?
No, I don't think there is. It's one of the legit advantages Photoshop has over GIMP. (Other things on this list: ability to do layer effects like adding a stroke around text, easily and reversibly, and animation.) My suggestion is assign a keyboard shortcut for the New Layer from Visible function because that comes in handy. Or do Ctrl+Shift+C (copy visible), Ctrl+V, and then make that into a new layer. It's much less convenient than Photoshop's adjustment layers but still a bit useful.
I just CANNOT get rid of the pixelly black bits in the background, what is with that!?
Hm yeah I see what you mean. It looks like it comes from image compression in the video itself. Since that background is all black, though, I would just take a black-to-transparent gradient or a big black brush and cover up the pixelly areas with solid black using that.
Mm, I was thinking that might be the solution. I used to do layer from visible in Photoshop as well, so it shouldn't be too much of a bother to adjust to using it more in GIMP.
I reckon it probably wouldn't be so bad if I had a better quality file to work from, but alas! I love those ideas though. I experimented with a black fill layer and erasing bits yesterday, but it was a lot of fiddly work and I couldn't be arsed, so I'm loving the sound of the black-to-transparent gradient quite a lot right about now :D
I'll just poke around with VLC some more, heh. It might just be because of that particular file or something.
I hit 7500 words on nano last night! I know I know, it's still shite compared to loads of other people (ie: literally everyone else I know who's doing nano XD), but never mind. it just refuses to leave my head! I love this~ ~Congrats~! XD That's really awesome. ♥
~I'm familiar with GIMP (but not with Photoshop, orz), but I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as chacusha: that there isn't an alternative, unfortunately. I think she's provided the best solution though! :)
~Ahh, I see what you mean about the screencap...but, I'm not sure what would really help (the icon looks really great though! ♥). ...And I don't really know much about VLC to help in regards to the size thing!
...Which pretty much makes this a really useless comment, orz. SORRY. :/

Not sure how to fix the VLC thing...
