I like to watch documentaries when I'm being domestic (ie cooking/baking or cleaning). I just made delicious banana bread and watched Outfoxed: Murdoch's War on Journalism.

I'll get someone to take pictures of my hair sooner or later. I hope sooner, because it will only fade from here.

You were the one who posted a the link to the blog about why people shouldn't go to grad school, weren't you?

How far away are you from your degree? You could always leave it and finish later, ne?

Got my MA in May; at least another four years til PhD. Can't leave it and finish later, heh--spots in grad programs are scarce (400-500 apps for 20odd spots a year in most of the better English programs, generally), funding even more so, so most programs don't offer leaves of absences or whatever.

Being in the academy, at least in the humanities, is at once the best and worst thing in the world. The trick is figuring out how much you care about each half of that. I'm not there yet.

I understand entirely. Grok even. I've decided what I care about more though, which is why I'm going back to school for design. I content myself with studying cultural studies in my free time, fully aware that I will never be published or recognized for my research. Maybe some day I'll want to be, and then I'll have some serious thinking to do. If I write a book, I already have ideas for the title. Heh.
