Here's a Gate, by the Sign, and in armor just in case the lack of it had contributed to certain events leading up to his questions. While he does hope the little droid hasn't been LOLed or damaged since it ran - or rolled - off, he can't help finding it all just a bit amusing ( Read more... )

"... I can honestly say I've never done anything like that. I've got a very good record with patients."

"And I haven't seen anything like that before."

Plant nods. "Exactly. But the humans would probably prefer avoiding that inconvenience in our universes. They're lazy like that. Which is better for us."

He's watching the "table" carefully, and waves a vine at it when he notices it peeking out at them

"True, but it doesn't make me feel any less uneasy to think we've avoided such a thing simply due to laziness," says Gate.

T3 waves back with little pincher arm, which unfortunately means dropping the corner of the tablecloth and not being able to see for a while.

Plant smiles. "Just be grateful for the little things like that, Gate. And the fact that reploids are most likely too complex for that to work."

He chuckles as he adds softly, "I think I've found where your escaped patient got to."

"I'm not so certain of that, Plant. Weil managed to 'program' Double into insanity through some creative use of virtual reality and memory wipes. And, from what I've heard, most of Zero's alternates end up losing their memories. Some of them twice." He frowns a little to himself, and then adds. "Perhaps that's something that I should look into, some sort of failsafe in case of..." and then he hears the rest of what Plant says.

"You have? Where?"

"Those are rare occurrences, Gate. The majority of control methods that are currently in place are not neraly to that level of depravity."

Plant gestures with a vine. "We're being watched."

"Oh?" Gate looks, and sees just the usual Nexus landscape. But... wasn't that end-table over there before? And it was shaped rather oddly, in a familiar way.

Just then the little pincher arm lifts the tablecloth again. T3 looks around slowly to avoid dropping the change jar that's sitting on his head, and then rolls over towards them.

Gate crouches down to be closer to the little droid's height. "Well, hello there."

Plant smiles at the droid's approach. "Hello. We aren't going to hurt you. Gate just wants to make sure that you're functioning properly since you left so suddenly."

The little droid bweeps at them, and it's just as well the Nexus is translating - Droidspeak has almost nothing in common with the binary encoding used by drones. -Yes. But this place is stranger than any spaceport I've ever seen.-

"This isn't a spaceport. And you've probably ended up a long way away from wherever you called home."

-I heard it isn't. I'm not sure what it is.- In answer to the rest the droid just taps the little sign sitting on top of him by the change jar, the one that requests donations for the homeless. T3 hasn't really had a place to call that in a long time.

"Well, if you need somewhere to stay..," offers Gate.

T3 hesitates. -You really mean it, about the no memory wipes..?-

"Not only would I never do such a thing," says Gate, "I find just the concept appalling."

Plant smiles. "Welcome to the Nexus. And he really means it. Trust me. He's seen enough mistreatment of machines by humans as it is."

He pauses. "I regret that I can't say that I've never done it. But only as a last resort in a case where the only other options were more cruel. But you don't need to be afraid."

"From what I've heard of that case, you were left with little choice, Plant. Centaur's mind was far too damaged... If Yammark had been the same, I... I really don't know what I would have done. I know I couldn't have just 'started over'."

T3 seems to be waffling a bit. A safe place to stay would be a good thing. Almost too good, in his experience. But this place was so strange... he wasn't sure he really had that many options. He slowly removes the change jar and sign from the top of his head. That, and the tablecloth, are currently his only belongings other than himself.

"He did way too much damage early in Centaur's activation. He didn't really have much memory of being himself to delete, I guess. Different situation, Gate."

Plant watches T3 carefully. "It's your choice what to do, we just want to help you."

"Yes..," Gate looks more than ready to move away from the uncomfortable topic.

And T3 is carefully removing the jar and sign from the top of his head so that he can try to fold his tablecloth up. It's not easy when you only have one retractable little pincher-arm. -Ok- he beeps -But anything funny and I'm gone-

Plant nods, then focuses on the real subject at hand. "Nothing is going to happen. No funny business. I promise. They don't do things like that."
