With the loud, startled whinney of a horse, a rider sporting a tricorn, a sabre and late 18th century clothing clatters into the Nexus. With his flintlock out and ready he looks around, frowns, but continues his mission.

The next stranger he comes across will get a command. "Stand and deliver!"

Ed just stares at him, one eyebrow raised.

"If it makes you feel any better, I didn't believe magic existed before I ended up here and sort of had it's existence thrown in my face," Ed says dryly.

"That doesn't sound like the most appealing of ways to be shown."

Ed shrugs. "There are worse ways to find out. Like waving a gun at one of said magic-users and getting their attention in a bad way."

A pause. "Or getting my or an alt's attention in a bad way where one who used to use it is concerned."

"Ah. Yes, I suppose that mightn't be advisable." He looks at his weapon before tucking it away. "Though... an 'alt'?"

"Short for alternate," Ed supplies. "Since this is a meeting place of multiple realities, it's possible for multiple versions of assorted worlds to have a connection here. Which means you could meet more than one version of the same person. I've met some of my own alts although they don't really get out into the Nexus much."

"More than one version of... So I could rob a person, and see them again only to end up befriending them? That must get puzzling."

"It can be, although after awhile, people figure out how to tell the differences between alts, if they aren't immediately apparent. Like obvious age differences or something."

"Is it worth staying here long enough to be able to tell the difference?

Ed shrugs. "That's for you to figure out. Some people never come back after going home, others sometimes come here for visits, and yet others move in altogether. I'm one of that last group."

"Is it better than where you came from?"

"Not necessarily better, but it's certainly different. But if I had more of a choice about things? I'd rather go back home to live there and just visit here. But as long as certain people are back there, it'd be a bad idea."

"Ah. Are these people are on a personal level, or do they have a hold on the law?"

Ed winces. "Unfortunately? Both."
