Nephrite is in the Nexus- not that he ever leaves- and he's sitting on one of the many Nexus Couches with a glass of liquor. Settled nearby is a large basket of sand, which his gold fire lizard is hovering over protectively. Since the fire lizard can't ask the obvious question, Nephrite does ( Read more... )

"Ooh, she's pretty. Er, can I have one?"

"My family."

"That's up to her," he replies, stroking the queen. Brigid looks at Dani curiously, then chirps and digs out an egg, which Nephrite transfers to an egg pot and hands to her. "You know how to care for one?"

"I've always taken comfort from the stars myself."

"Er, no I don't actually.I know a few people who probably would, but just to be on the safe side, could you tell me?"

"The egg needs to be kept warm until it hatches in about five days. The temperature should be like that of a hot beach. The egg should hatch in around five days, and when it does, greet the hatchling with food- preferably red meat, the bloodier the better- and gentle thoughts. They communicate telepathically with images and emotions, and their eye color indicates their mood- red means anger or hunger, blue or green means contentment, yellow means alarm, and white means fear. They can naturally teleport, and their skin needs to be oiled when it gets patchy- the fire lizard will let you know it needs oiling when it complains of itchiness. And they also produce fire after eating a phosphine bearing rock known as firestone."

Lily blinks owlishly behind her glasses, then cautiously approaches with a smile. She's guessing that thing beside Nephrite is a fire lizard, and it's quite pretty. She wouldn't mind having one.

"...Is there one available for me?" she asks as politely as possible, her ears quivering with excitement.

"There are still a few left." He strokes the fire lizard, who peers at Lily curiously. Then she chirps and digs an egg out, which Nephrite transfers to an egg pot and hands to Lily. "You know how to care for one?"

((It's a blue, male.))

"Yes, I've been listening to your explanations." Lily smiles, taking the pot and holding it carefully. "I'm an empathic species myself, so I think it'll be pretty simple. Thank you very much." She bows, careful not to drop or jostle the egg.

"All right. You're welcome and good luck."

Asch was going to just walk past, having no interest in answering the question. But the creature drew his attention and he hesitated before approaching. "...Is that creature a fire lizard?" It was a rather...pretty creature.

Nephrite chuckles. "Yes, she is. They're charming creatures, though quite a handful as hatchlings."

He pauses, then reaches out to stroke the creature's head. "How much of a handful?"

"For the first few months or so, they just eat and sleep and make a lot of racket. Their skin needs to be oiled when they complain of itchiness, and they communicate telepathically with images and emotions."

Eee! Cute little dragon looking thing! She kind of reminds her of the dragon chicks back home but much smaller.

"Aw, how adorable!" Always expect Kisara to state those words.

"Depends on what I feel like that day and what kind of comfort I want." She pauses a little bit, shifting on her feet. "If I could could I possibly have one? I'd take good care of it..." Considering that she sort of, technically, is a dragon herself in a sense.

Brigid accepts the praise as if it's her right, preening with pleased chirps.

Nephrite chuckles at the little queen. "The stars have always been my comfort through everything." He strokes the fire lizard, who peers at Kisara intently. After a moment, she chirps and digs out an egg, which Nephrite transfers to an egg pot and hands to Kisara. "You know how to care for one?"

((It's a green, female.))

By all means she should take the praise, it's all meant for her.

"I have more than one comforting thing, it's a little hard to explain, though." She lightly taps her chin at the thought, wondering if she could put it in a simpler terms. No such luck.

"I can't say I've ever really interacted with one before, how does it work?"

"I understand what you mean."

He chuckles and starts into the mini-lecture he's been repeating. "The egg needs to be kept warm until it hatches in about five days. The temperature should be like that of a hot beach. And they also produce fire after eating a phosphine bearing rock known as firestone. The gold females are the largest; followed by the bronze, brown, and blue males, each smaller than the last; and the green females are the smallest."

"Is that as big as they get?"

With much restrained curiousity Seth meanders over aimlessly to get a better look at the gold. He is a bit wary of most Nexus things since that time he got turned into a Gargoyle but he is somewhat willing to get close to this oddity.

"Comfort? I suppose I am most comfortable when I am working."

"Yes. The gold females are the largest, with the bronze, brown, and blue males each smaller than the last, and the green females being the smallest."

Brigid chirps at Seth, cocking her head curiously and leaning close. Might he be giving scritches?

Nephrite nods in understanding. He's known a few people like that. "I personally have always taken comfort from the stars."

Seth smiles faintly and obediantly if a bit uncertainly rubs Brigid's head. He can obligue the gold since she asked so nicely. "Do these firelizards make good companions?" He inquires while mulling over a response to the comment on the stars.

"The stars are beautiful but I don't look at them very often. At least not as much as I should."

Brigid trills happily at the rubbing, leaning into it.

"They generally do, though they're almost mischievously curious. If trained, however, they can be useful by delivering messages, identifying threats, letting you know how people feel about you, and acting as a watchdog, among other useful abilities."
