Just Better (locked from his Kents)

Guillame walks in the Nexus looking puzzled and carrying a book on the history and theory of American democracy.
"The end of hereditary aristocracy I can understand -- there was something in here about a 'natural aristocracy' of virtue and talent that was making sense, but then it is simply dropped -- and everyone's having certain inalienable rights -- although it seems that they can be abdicated -- is not too confusing."

He frowns. "But unfortunately, this has not helped me understand how people can just be declared to be equals when they...simply are not. Many situations put people in very different positions. And some people are... simply better than others. Stronger, smarter, able to hold themselves to higher standards of behavior. Just Better. Can anyone explain why I am not supposed to think this anymore?"
