Summary: Preparation for a birthday and meeting the family with not only one new thing.
It had only been a little over two weeks since Alisa had been born, and they were still trying to come to terms with their new life. Orlando had stayed at the hospital until New Year's Eve, as he was still recovering from the birth. He had to take it easy as he had needed several stitches from when he had pushed Alisa out.
Sean had several arguments every day to try and get him to rest, or not doing things that could cause the stitches to break. Orlando had a habit of not saying anything, even if he was in pain. It was different from last month's of the pregnancy, when the hormones made Orlando complain about even trifle things. Sean thought well of himself for having learnt to tell Orlando's moods.
Today had not been different other than that Orlando nursed Alisa. He had begun to clean the house, until Sean had managed to make him to stop. Of course, Sean knew very well what was making him do it. There were only a few days left until Orlando's birthday. That meant that both their families and a few friends would come to celebrate with him, and meet Alisa for the first time.
Orlando hadn't wished for anything special and had said so for months, knowing they would have Alisa, but Sean tried to fix a few things for him anyway, which was why he didn't want Orlando to get around the house and find any of it.
"Please Orlando, can't you rest? You know that you will need all of your energy on Tuesday."
"But I can't sit down and let you do everything. I'm not have the extra weight of a life to think of now when I do chores, and you did so much during the last two months, and we did agree to do things together." Orlando argued, standing straight. Even if he didn't have the weight of Alisa to carry, Orlando still had some extra weight around his waist.
"Now you are lying to yourself. What I can see is that you take good care of Alisa, and that is all I would ask of you. Actually, I have come to like keeping our place clean." Sean walked the few steps over to his partner to show that he did love him.
"But… but it's always been me that had to do it, when you always said that it was you that fixed the car, you that fixed the house maintenance, you that had the job that made most money."
"Shh. I was wrongly to say that. I've learned that now and I will see that we share our tasks better, as soon as you catch little more strength, and we are used to having a daughter to care about as well." Sean embraced Orlando. "Please, would you take a rest now before Alisa wakes up?"
"Okay, but I will not go to bed, I will rest on the sofa."
"Whatever you want to do, as long as you rest, then you will keep me happy."
Orlando resigned himself to resting and went to lie down on the sofa, and Sean took over the cleaning. Not long after, he went and checked on Orlando, who lay soundly sleeping. Sean smiled.

Even if Sean had been able to steer Orlando off from overstraining himself a few days ago, he had noticed that Orlando still did things in the house.
Sean had managed to get up before Orlando to take care of Alisa when she woke up, it didn't happen often, as Orlando seemed to sleep much lighter than he had done before. Today he was happy he was up first, as he wanted to surprise his lover in bed because it was his birthday. After changing Alisa and feeding her, he made a tray with breakfast.
He went into the bedroom and put Alisa down in her crib, where she was an angel and fell asleep. Then he went back for the tray and present. Coming back, he saw Orlando moving in the bed and was met by sleepy brown eyes.
"What time is it?" Orlando started to get out of the bed. "I have to take care of Alisa."
Keeping his voice low to as not to wake their daughter, Sean told him that he had already taken care of her, and said a quick 'Happy Birthday'. Orlando stopped, looked at his wrist watch and then at Sean. He blinked a few times and then gave a wide smile to him.
"Thank you!" He sat up to lean against the headboard.
Sean came with the tray and let Orlando hold it, until he could sit down beside him in the bed and produced the present.
"I know this might be little late… after all, we have bought a house and produced a child… but Orlando, would you marry me?"
Orlando, still emotional, became speechless for a moment, and tears started spilling from his eyes. Nodding, he finally managed to get a yes out. Sean opened the box, revealing a platinum ring. He took it out and put it on Orlando's ring finger.
Careful, so as not to knock of the things on the tray, Sean leaned in to kiss Orlando.
"I love you." They said at the same time when they finished the kiss.
Orlando looked at his ring. "It's beautiful, like you and Alisa."
All Sean could do was smile.

A few hours later, their house was filled with people and sounds. Both their families had come. They had congratulated Orlando on his birthday and the birth of Alisa, but it was the daughter they were mostly interested in. Earlier, Sean and Orlando had decided to not say anything of Sean's proposal that morning, wondering if anyone would notice the ring. They wanted to let things calm down before they announced that they were getting married.
Sean watched his fiancé and felt pleased to see him so happy. He felt like he had when he had met him, the love hadn't lessened. He knew that if it had been a few more week since Orlando had given birth, he would have hurried their guests out the door, so he could make love to Orlando.
Orlando had felt himself being watched, and he looked at Sean. He left his mother, which he had been talking to, went over to him.
"Thank you for fixing this, even if I said I didn't want it. It has been a wonderful day. Thank you." Orlando wound his arms around Sean's neck and kissed him.
"You're welcome. It was such a little thing I could do." Sean kissed him and then said, "I love you."
The day went well, and Sean had been right that Orlando would be exhausted when everyone had left, and he fell asleep as soon as he laid his head down, though Sean wasn't disappointed when he now knew that he would have his lover for the rest of their lives.
