Vampire Knight - Zero x Kaname yaoi fanart: "Cravings". (+ VK volume 09 info.)

Apr 04, 2010 23:23

First and completely unrelated to the pervy fanart:
Belated Happy Easter to anyone who celebrates it~! :D♥
May you have a lovely Easter~! (I'm a bit late to wish that, so it's more like 'may you have had a lovely one.' XD;;;; Belatedly...)

Onwards to unrelated yaoi action. XD; *lol*

That picture is awesome, btw! waaaah *nosebled to death*

And yeah I noticed that in Vol. 9...But, I just go by what you say and correct it in my mind XD lol! If you didn't translate I wouldn't even know this stuff. You're awesome! I remember you and I talked about Vol 7 having differences in translation (straight out errors. lol) and I checked and the translator's name for VK didn't change, so it must be all the reasons you said for them not to be accurate. I can't imagine it's VIZ editing/censoring stuff.

And I don't care, I'm buying the anime in English. I cannot WAIT!

I suppose it'll be easier if you provide the original Japanese text, include the romaji and then the meaning. You can't deny the official releases (they are after all, official) so the least you could do is provide the original Japanese text of the line and if there's others fluent in Japanese, they can share their opinion over it.

The original Japanese text:
貴方の尊祖父であられる玖蘭の最後の王がそうおっしゃったのだ

Word in question:
    尊 そん       祖父 そふ
[Honorific prefix]        Grandfather

My view on this is that a dash was inadvertently added somewhere in translation/editing.
Great grandfather is different in meaning from great-grandfather, but similar enough imho to something like honorable grandfather.

The most likely scenario is probably as you've described.

I suppose the only way to know for sure is to ask them directly; the translator has a website and the editor is quite active on Twitter. But that would make for a rather awkward conversation. *lol*
"Hi! My name is sagakure. I draw hot yaoi fanart and also scanla- whoops! I, uhm... you know what? Never mind. Forget I exist. Pretend we never even had this conversation. Ciao! Pardonnez-moi. No puedo hablar Inglés." >.>
XDDD;;;;;;

I'm happy with the English translations so far. The lack of honorifics is very disappointing, especially since it's such an important indicator of relationships in VK. However, VIZ has done a good job overall and definitely made VK an enjoyable read for many.

Now we'll have to see how well the anime measures up... *still feeling apprehensive about hearing the new 'official' voices*

:(, I've just to check-out the volumen 9 in spanish (and published last october'09)and the translation is right (I mean, you can read "abuelo", not "bisabuelo") The only [big] pity is they dont use -sempai, -sama, ect...
I dont have any idea at all if in old books there's any error about.

It's sadly funny,'cos usually the english stuff is more "mainstream" and all that stuff, so i wish maybe they do a 2ºedition or something to get the real fun to everyone.

Ah, so the Spanish edition had it right, I'm glad to hear that. ^^/ Thanks for letting me know~!
If you don't mind refreshing my memory, which publisher does VK there?

Of the official releases I've heard of so far, 50% got that word wrong. ^^; It's not the most reassuring success rate for an official product. But such things happen a lot all over the world...
Although, still, the US release is for the most part an excellent release, regardless of the occasional errors. ^^/

Your fanart is as awesome as ever. *purrs and growls* Those two smexy bastards just aren't good enough without each other. Of course, with Yuuki between them, their delicateness keeps growing. <3

Unfortunately I didn't buy my volume 9 yet but always read the official English releases adding those little corrections and name-formalities (known from your scanlations ^^;) in mind. It's great that you pointed out that mistake, it could have been a bit confusing.

And at last but not least Happy Easter to you, too! <3 *chu*
