Vampire Knight chapter 46 - Scanlated in English. :D

I said 12~15 hours, and it was done in 11 hours after all! :D

As usual, I'll be adding a little commentary, explanatory notes etc. as soon as I have a moment, but since I'm sure no one wants to have to wait, I'm uploading the scanlation now and will add my ramblings later. ;)
As I say each time, you might want to read the chapter once first, and then again with the commentary (if you are interested in it, of course XD;), so that you don't have your reading interrupted at each page, which would disrupt the enjoyment of the reading. ^^/

All four are New Years cards drawn by Asako Nishida, characters designer for the VK anime.
She drew the first two for the card people could win through Animedia, and so I posted scans some days ago.
The lower half is the other set she made, this one for Animage magazine~!
I picked it up yesterday, so I saw the cards and bounced happily to see that there was a set for each pairing~! ♥♥♥♥♥

I about died of happiness at the beauty of the two in this cover. *___*
I was expecting color pages with one of them or both with Yuuki, and so it was totally unexpected that it was the two together instead. *___*
I am a HUGE Zero x Kaname fan, so you must guess I was bouncing with glee. XD<333
Is that a coffin they're sitting on? XD;;;
Also, just as a note because someone earlier asked what the color pages' said, and they had a line someone translated and told them, but their line was wrong.
The right version is the one you can see here on the pic above, "hold you in my arms". :D
The word in Japanese is indeed "hand", but it's because "hold you in my hands" becomes "hold you in my arms" in English. ;)
And as much as I'd love it to be said between the two in the pic (*yaoi fan* XD), it most definitely is Yuuki that Zero wanted to hold in his arms, not Kaname. *rotfl* (I think no one had any doubts/needed any clarification on that. XD XD *LOL*)
Both are presumably referring to Rido. As in, Zero is saying he'll kill Kaname next, and Kaname is thanking him for having severed the fetters that bound him to Rido.
If Rido is really dead, since chapters 44 and 45 left us wondering a bit... XD *kinda hopes he'll pop up again at some point later, although doesn't knows if he will, as he did look pretty dead* XD;;
If there's one thing that Kaname can't stand is anyone threatening Yuuki, wow! Although the anger in his eyes is impressive, I find the vines surrounding him way more scary, especially after we saw how sharp those things can be. D:
(You'll see what I mean in a moment. ^^;)
So, Kaname's aura burns with anger, and Zero is surrounding him with vines more and more. ^^/
Kaname uses his aura to attack Zero, but Zero blocks everything, only receiving a mere two scratches, and....... ZERO TORE OFF KANAME'S HAND. O__________________O Holy crap! *ran in circles*
Good thing he's a pureblood. ;-; *hopes it regrows fast*
When I first read it, I was pretty much running in circles thinking "yay, sexy battle between my two favorites~! ^__^" and quickly it switched all the way into "O___O AHHHH!! HIS HAND!!! AAAAHHH! Wow, Zero is into some reaaaaally kinky stuff!! O__o"

As you can see, Kaname already reformed a momentary hand of energy or something to tug at the vines restraining him. :D
*hopes a new definitive hand will grow quickly later. ^^;
This chapter raises huge questions about the true nature of anti-vampire weapons and just how far goes their morphing power, because it's almost like they work as a symbiotic creature changing depending on the power of the person wielding them (we already had seen that with the staff becoming a scythe after Yuuki changed, but the bloody rose is an even more impressive case, as it is actually sucking Zero's blood to power up those vines, in a quite scary manner, and it almost seems to have a conscience of its own. D:)
I think this is an important point, that was never as evident in the series as it is now. ^^/
(Probably because usually, hunter weapons are wielded by hunters, who are humans, so it doesn't looks/does anything thaat special, but wielded by powerful vampires they reveal things we had no idea they could do. O_o)
It's truly amazing that the weapons seems to have conscience enough to reconize people by voice and understand them talking etc... not only that, but it seems very vampire-like in nature, recognizing blood tastes and wanting blood etc. DDDD: Wow!
Also, Kaname demonstrates that if you ask politely, you can get anything. XD;;; *is shot again* XD XD *was amused by that* XD *wonders if Hino-sensei will make comical bonuses of such a thing in volume 10 maybe?* XD XD
I'm torn between two urges when I see those scenes. XD
One is to be terribly afraid of all those super sharp vines encircling Kaname's hot, sexy, nosebleed-inducing body.
The other is VINE BONDAGE NOW PLEASE~! /*0*/
I mean, come on, Zero has the same powers as a tentacle monster practically, it's a waste not to use for porn. ;-; *must draw doujinshi of it sometime*

Pureblood's blood is REALLY HANDY. Those blades are made of Kaname's blood, still pouring from his torn wrist. O_O
;-; owwwwwwwwwww, btw.
And considering how he seems to be more pain sensitive, (maybe especially to hunter weapons?), since he'd even gone and complained to Zero about the rough bite etc in chapter 30, I can only imagine how having your hand torn off must hurt like crazy. ^^;;;;;;;;;;;;
By the way: In case it was not obvious, the two last bubbles are said by Zero, calling the Bloody Rose back to normal after it was distracted by how hot Kaname is XD by how tasty Kaname's blood is XD;;; *is shot* XD;;;;;.
I think Kaname lost a few hundred years of lifespan in fright for Yuuki in the moment she jumped in between his blades and Zero's gun/vines. XD;;
(Which btw, were back under Zero's command and ready to attack regardless of the previous moment of distraction the bloody rose had. XD;)
Maybe it's just a coincidence that he stopped right then, but... I just LOVE the way his sentence is organized. He's angry about Zero pointing the gun at Yuuki, he totally wants to go after him for it, but as he speaks, first talking about the years it's okay (keep in mind, purebloods like practically forever), but the immediate moment he voices the possibility of her hating him........ it's like the idea is too horrible for him or something, because he immediatly dropped what he was saying and didn't even finish the sentence. XD
Kaname is always really controlled, and you don't normally see him dropping sentences in the middle or losing track of what he's saying like in this. I do think there's a chance that it was indeed the idea of her hating him that was so shocking that he couldn't finish his sentence. XD<3
Of course, it could be just as well the way she was looking at him, eyes pleading for him not to fight Zero. :) (See next page. :D)
And once more, Kaname always ends up melting for Yuuki, and doing as she wishes. X3 ♥
Also, THE LICK! *_____________* *fangirls endlessly, passes out from happiness* <-- It's such a tiny thing, but it's SO CUTE. XD
And Kaname needed a comforting touch at the moment. ^^; Maybe a lickie from Yuuki makes the pain go away. XD<3 *is shot*
He leaves for now to give them the necessary privacy. :D
Also, it seems Yuuki is finally noticing that calling him "Kaname-senpai" putting the distance makes him sad, and she seems to be actively trying not to, which is such a change from the moments not long after she'd turned back to herself.
Similarly, she's much gentler to Zero now than she was shortly after turning.
I think that shortly after turning she was still all shaken (it's a huge change + talk about the stress or suddenly remembering the parents' deaths and all all at once.
I think that she seems much calmer and much more like herself now, and is gentler and more balanced for the two of them. :D
Which is very good, life is hardcore enough to the two poor guys as it is, without them needing their loved one being hurtful too. XD;;; *kind of wonders if Zero would have had the same genocide ideas if Yuuki had never said the line about her vampire self eating her human self back then. XD;; But then, he was already pointing the gun at her then, and had said all along that he wanted to kill the vampires, from the beginning of the series, so.....maybe it was inevitable either way. ^^;; *crosses fingers so much hoping that he'll change his mind and accept the vampires and himself eventually* ^^;;;)
I suddenly noticed that she's not wearing today the petticoat that she normally wears under her skirt. XD;; *is shot again*
Onto more serious matters, about the "one and only place where she must be", it would probably be with him/on the vampire side/by his side,
although he could just as well be implying that he leaves the decision in her hands, knowing/trusting that she already knows well in her heart where she wants to be, or that she will choose wisely, wherever that is.
It's of course again just a theory, but it might also work with some of the events later in the chapter. ^^/
See what I meant by the hunter weapons have so many strange things? D:
Well, I'd long wondered what powered the vines, because they sure grow vivaciously, but I had assumed it was just Zero himself, since they were coming out of his body. But it seems the vines really are separate from him, they're what the gun becomes when Zero uses his power to do it, but I wonder if he'd be able to do it without the gun.
Also, I wonder if this is one of those super-dangerous-to-use types of techniques that consumes so much of your blood and endagers you etc etc. ;__; *grew up reading shonen manga* XD;;
I hope we will find out more in future chapters about the hunter weapons and how they work, because it really seems more like rather than a mere object, they seem almost like a live organism in symbiotic relationship with a host, (and which shows its power based on the strength of the host).... or perhaps even parasitic relationship, we'd have to see more of it to know. D:
Another interesting thing... the gun doesn't zaps Zero, who is still a vampire, but it zaps Yuuki! Perhaps because she isn't the habitual user...
With the Artemis too, it zapped her at first, but when she forced herself to hold onto it for a while anyway, it recognized her as its owner and turned into the scythe. Now let's hope it doesn't starts drinking her blood. ^^;; It mustn't have, since she was surprised by the Bloody Rose doing it. So maybe it's something particular to the Bloody Rose...)
Another thing I wonder is whether the Bloody Rose was supposed to recognize Kaname's voice merely from having randomly heard it before during the series, or if it was from something that we haven't seen yet, prior to it being given to Zero... I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with the chaimrna, and if maybe Kaname and him did something to the weapons that would be at hand, to ensure that in a worst case scenario those weapons wouldn't be used to harm Yuuki...?
That would explain why the vines obeyed Kaname and pulled back when he mentioned he wanted to protect her. (And obeyed Zero and went back up when it was just to fight Kaname himself.)
Although this is entirely theory, huh. XD It could be complete nonsense. (Especially since if the gun was safe, why would Kaname be so angry... but then again, he did say he was so angry at the act of pointing it at her, although he also did mention the gun could kill her, so I guess it's not safe afterwards, or maybe it's just that if you talk to it, it will listen, but if you get shot you're still screwed.... XD:;;;;; Haa...
VK has so many possibilities for theories, it's always fun.

And onto a little note, I find it the cutest thing those little flashbacks of them as kids, especially the one in the middle right of the page, with Yuuki playing with Kaname's hair and vice-versa. X3
We've seen before that Kaname really has a thing for running his fingers through Yuuki's hair (it makes it look so soft and silky that I feel like touching it too! XD *lol*), but since she seems to be the same, I wonder if it's a pureblood thing... or a vampire thing (they do seem to be more touchy-feely XD), or a Kuran thing..... or simply something that Kaname and Yuuki have always shared. XD *has urge to draw fanart of them touching each other's hair now* XD;; <-- Bear with me, I've been awake for far too long. XD;;; *lol* The energetic post-manga-chapter mood is slowly melting into happy fluffy mood. XD XD;;;
I think "I only desire your blood" really is vampire language for "I love you". XD XD *LOL*
Actually, it totally makes sense that they'd desire it, as vampires.
Before already, when Luca was depressed because Kaname refused her blood, Cain explained to her in the corridor that when a vampire is in love, they will need the blood of their loved one in order to feel fulfilled... so it totlly makes sense that being deeply in love one would only desire the blood of that person.
(That doesn't means that another's blood won't be nourishing, but it might not be appealing... maybe it's like having sex with someone you don't love while you're madly in love for someone else? *is shot for porny fanfic ideas, has so many plot ideas for fics based on this chapter* XD;;;)
I find it both so utterly bittersweet and so utterly beautiful (and awesomely organized by Hino-sensei for a more powerful effect as the confessions are one after the other) that Yuuki confesses her feelings for Kaname in one page, and then in the next, Zero confesses his own for Yuuki.
It's so tragic. You know, as I read this chapter, I started to strongly wonder if maybe the tragic love in VK would be Zero's love, due to not getting Yuuki. It is tragic, after all, so it would totally fit the tragic love story theme.
And it would be way less bad than if they all died or Zero died or something. ^^;;
Of course, like I just said, it's just something that came to my mind as I read, not actually anything official or anything, so it's just a theory.
There's still so much stuff that can happens ahead, maybe it will be way more tragic and bloody. ^^;;; *crosses fingers and so so hopes the main trio will survive and be okay ideally in a threesome. XD *clings to impossible hope* XD XD;; *lol*
I'm also thinking that the unbearably deep desire for your loved one's blood to the point of being a bit 'scary' might be a vampire thing/urge/instinct too. (Making you a monster if you lose your mind in it, or being okay if you properly control your instincts and don't drink that much.)
But because Zero hates vampires and still doesn't accepts his urges and instincts perhaps it seems so disgusting at his eyes? While another vampire would know it's a natural reaction and not worry so much, maybe? The fact that Zero was human before doesn't helps either, since a born vampire would have grown up learning to deal with their instincts etc, while ex-humans don't have that luck.
Of course, again, it's a theory. Maybe it's not actual normal instincts and Zero is really an exception that does indeed has a hunger that is out of the normal, either due to his complicated condition as ex-human and all (especially with all the boosted power he carries!!), or due to his love for Yuuki being such that he wants her so much and the hunger becomes dangerous which in turn frightens him into refusing his instinctive urges even more, and so on, with so many other possiblities... but it sure is interesting, and one could take many interesting fanfiction ideas XD theories from the various possibilities.
Zero x Yuuki fans, rejoice, as he finally kissed her! :D
Initially the first 3 or 4 times I went through the chapter I only saw the kiss ...... and then, the fifth or so time, the glorious sight of Zero's perfect butt finally caught my eyes and it just wouldn't let go. *0*
I can't recall it ever having been shown in such a nice and well defined manner, so perfectly round and- *is shot* XD;;;
Especially due to the fact that VK uniform jackets are long... we've seen some really gorgeous scenes, but this one....... *___________* *stares at his butt*
...Uhm. XD;; *lol*
It's both beautiful, but also so very bittersweet, because it really is a farewell/feels so much like one. ^^;
Also, from her reactions, I think that perhaps Yuuki knew about his feelings, and was sad that he'd be hurt?
She's a pureblood after all... they're really really perceptive. (Unlike the clueless human Yuuki used to be. XD;)
Considering how much Yuuki cares for the both of them, it must be agony for her to know that simple act of loving one of them causes pain to the other, who also loves her... which is why they should get on a threesome now. *is shot again* XD;;;
But on same time, on light of what Zero says a few pages later, I wonder if maybe he only wanted the kiss for the sake of the past, for all that he saw as lost...? (=human Yuuki, who will never quite be the same one he once knew, since the human her was just a part of the whole person that she is now that she has her memories back.)
After all, considering Zero's thoughts on purebloods, even if Yuuki wasn't with Kaname, one could wonder if he would consider the idea of being together a possibility at all, or if he'd view it as impossible because of her being a pureblood.
It's tricky, because on top of being tsundere, Zero doesn't often lets us know what he's really thinking (especially lately), so we can wonder if he really intends to wipe out everybody or not (I doubt that would include Yuuki, despite what he says? I hope he won't kill either her or Kaname T^T), or if he is maybe still worried about falling to level E and thus couldn't think of such things even if he didn't mind her being a pureblood... or various other possibilities. (I'm sure all equally full of potential for you to explore in fanfiction as well. ;D)
The objective thing, would be wiping out all purebloods, from what he told Rido. ^^;;
Unless he's lying and his secret objective is protecting Yuuki from afar, but it would totally make no sense with what he's saying afterwards. ^^;
However, if he does ends up going for genocide, hopefully he'll wipe out the bad ones likely to threaten them all, and then change his mind without killing the rest? XD;;;
I could totally see the second arc being both the new post-council conflict with Sara & Ichiou and who knowns who more going against Kaname's side, and Zero hunting down purebloods and thus eventually joining forces with Yuuki & Kaname at least for the moment, while they fight common enemies.
Hopefully a truce can maybe evolve into something more, such as him not trying to kill them once the enemies are dead. XD; Hopefully. XD *lol*
The original line in Japanese would have become gibberish in English if translated word by word, so I adapted it to the word "eternity", because that was the meaning it had.
In the original, Zero tells Yuuki to go be with the man who can "walk the same time-length she can". (As in, who has a lifespan like hers, since purebloods live practically eternally, while other vampires don't.)
Hence the "eternity" thing, which was the meaning behind it for purebloods. ^^/
This page and the next is another moment that made me fangirl Yuuki so much in this chapter. X3
I hadn't been too happy at her in some of the past episodes, but I feel that she was finally going back to being her more loveable self more recently. :D (naturally, considering that before she'd had to deal first with the bloody hallucinations, and then with adapting to so much all of a sudden.)
And with this episode, she is WONDERFUL~! Made me think of her mom! *fangirls Juri*
She was lovely in how she handled Kaname so well and provided the gentleness he needed, and then same to Zero in trying to provide him with a reason to go on living even after he just told her he would kill her.
I dare hope Zero wouldn't be able to bring himself to kill her even if he really tried to (*crosses fingers, would hate for it to end in a tragic way that way* ^^;;;), but that she wants to help him and give him a reason to live under any circumstances for herself is just so Yuuki, and so lovely. X3<333

If you like the anime, buy the DVDs (official releases, not bootlegs ^^;), if you like the manga, please please buy the books (if you can't find them in your country or they are too expensive, the japanese ones are really cheap and you can find online! :D), and/or buy the fanbook, get merchandise... there are many many ways to support VK, and they're all so very enjoyable!! ;DD
Just PLEASE make sure to buy (official) VK stuff please, because I'd hate for the scanlation to do a disservice to the series. ^^;;;;;
I provide the scanlations as a way for the western fandom to experience what the japanese fandom experiences by buying and reading the magazine. :D
That way we may all enjoy the chapters as they come out and know all that's currently going on in the series.
In other words, it's a bonus, it doesn't replaces the books. :D (Which also happen to have lovely bonuses and often redrawn details etc, so either way, it's awesome as a fan to buy them, both to support the series and to enjoy all those little things. ;D)
So please make sure to buy the books and show your love for VK~! \\^__^///

And semi-unrelatedly, I saw that someone posted a really hurried text-only translation not long before I posted the scanlation, and I just found out that the same person also was later posting saying that my scanlation had errors and that their translation was much better and so on. You get the picture.
I won't say their name or where they posted because otherwise it becomes kind of like I'm attacking them or something, which is totally not my intention. I absolutely hate attacks and don't mean to insult or offend anyone.
I just wanted to point out the issue because I find it absolutely unfair for them to say such things of my translation when it's not true.
I'm sorry to say, but theirs has mistakes, lines wrong with the final meaning completely changed and influencing shipping views, and other such issues. (Not to mention that it was visibly terribly hurried considering how messy and shock-full of typos it was, at least the last time I saw it. Don't know if they fixed it since then.)
For their information, what takes so long in the scanlation and makes me so tired/vegetating 12 hours later, is the scanning and cleaning of the pages, which takes hours and hours (maybe I scan or clean too slow, I don't know).
Translating the text itself is what I do first, and what I always put the most care into, obviously. So the quality is where it's most important, in the text.
Obviously my priority is the translation and not the commentary with my post or whatever unimportant thing which I can write while half-dead without problem.
If the person is not happy, if they have their own version of the chapters, it's their choice, it's all fine, they're just as free to translate and all as I am, but I don't go around pointing a finger at them mentioning to people how "so-and-so's translation is wrong", so I find it unfair that they'd go around posting untrue things about my translation, which is neither "hurried" nor wrong.
It's particularly uncalled for considering I didn't say anything attacking their translation even though I saw it and shuddered at how their translation had changed the meaning of important stuff.
I just let them be and posted mine peacefully, and then saw that they were soiling the name of my translation.
People do the weirdest things, really. O_o
