I've been enjoying this season mainly because I think Matt Smith is totally, utterly, fabulously awesome. His rapid-fire delivery just kills me. "It's a Fez. I wear a Fez now. Fezes are cool." And then he nails the quieter, emotional moments just as brilliantly.
I hadn't thought of the Time Traveler's Wife connection but now you mention it, it seems really obvious. Good call.
My only problem with the finale was Amy desperately trying to get the Doctor to kiss her AGAIN. I really liked their flirty rapport before Rory was properly introduced, but enough already. The guy she's supposed to love just stuck by her for 2000 years and yet she's still treating him like crap. It's like we're supposed to think of her as completely fickle and careless of his feelings. Do. Not. Want.
I hope they can sort it out next season because I really like all three actors and like the dynamic of them as a trio.
HA -- I loved it when River and Amy joined forces to swiftly destroy the fez. ;)
Yeah, I haven't quite figured out Amy's character yet (and am not sure the writers have, either). I've read various things about her being purposefully drawn that way (not treating Rory well, flirting with the Doctor) out of insecurity or a fear of abandonment, and that Rory knows that about her and loves her despite/because of those flaws, but I'm not sure how much I subscribe to those theories. I do like that she's not "perfect" so there's some dynamism to her character development, but I don't exactly like fickleness as her major flaw. Anyway, something to keep an eye on...
(Eeek, I hit the wrong "reply" button and initially replied to my post instead of your comment -- oops)
