Character-driven drama and sci-fi

I think the rest of the world was having a heat wave, and it finally hit Seattle this weekend. Well, it's not like heat waves travel the way hurricanes or locusts do, but much like fashion trends and broadcast television shows, Seattle gets things late. The temperature reached the 90s here this weekend and it was icky! But of course, nothing ( Read more... )

It actually cooled down here, which was nice. I don't expect it will last long; it never does.

I'm not sure sci-fi has too much stigma in the UK. As long as you're not posting on Gallifrey One for example, a bit of a sci-fi habit is acceptable in a well-rounded individual. It's weird. Sci-fi is ok. LOTR is ok. HP is beyond the pale for someone like me. *shrugs ( ... )

What's Gallifrey One? And are you saying HP is looked down on?

The plotting on Lost is a little strange. I find it goes too slow a lot of the time -- like the producers realized "hey, we've got a hit show! but how long can we *really* keep them stranded on an island? let's really drag everything out in order to keep the show going for a long time." I love Naveen, too. He is HIGH QUALITY.

I haven't even started Saturday. I got stuck half-way through Wicked, and now I can't read anything because I'm scrambling to finish up all my job applications for fall interviewing season -- everything is due on Wednesday and of course, I just got started on Sunday night. I'm really pissed off at myself at my procrastinatory ways. I still want to talk about Saturday with you, but I'm behind schedule on that, too. Argh!

P.S. Totally calling the fan police on you. LOTR! Are you serious? What a travesty.

What's Gallifrey One? And are you saying HP is looked down on?Sorry - wrote that one a bit quickly. It's a fan site, where extremely boring and frequently sycophantic fans write drivel about the episode that's just aired. Most of them anyway - I'm sure there are interesting fans who post there, but I've only been there once or twice so I haven't come across them ( ... )

Did you see my email with suggestions on how you could watch BG? I don't know if any of those are a possibility, but maybe? Hopefully?

So when you watch Star Trek on TV at home, it's not the actual actors' voices??? Don't some things air in English?

I feel the pain on downloading. I usually have to connect by dial-up modem from home, so it's impossible for me to download anything. But if I go to school, I get high speed access. I totally made a trip to campus for the sole purpose of downloading those last 3 episodes of battlestar that I didn't have yet

Let me know which episode is going to air... I hope it's a good one. I always get nervous when I recommend a show to someone and they watch an episode that isn't as good as others.
