Just a heads-up that I've just recorded Chapter 7 of Chamber of Secrets for the hpreadaloud, so if you ever wanted to hear Harry Potter read in an Australian accent that's not really very Australian, now's your chance (I did voices ( Read more... )

There's going to be an attached website soon because it is going to take over the WORLD.

Yes. Yes, it is.

Or, not really.

Pessimist.

Your voice <3's!

I've said it before but your voice is disappointingly english when your reading :p. I find myself desperately searching for a hint of an aussie accent, which seems to creep in ever so slightly when your doing the direct speech. The other accents you do are great fun as well though, Wood!

I know... well! I want to avoid the word "elocution", but basically that's the training I've had. Australians tend not to open their mouth wide and to drawl, especially their vowels, so that's what makes the Australian accent distinctive, but in aiming for pure sounds and 'proper' pronounciation I guess I sound English, because that's the standard. Would you believe me if I said I was disappointed with my voice as it stands and am working to improve my resonation and articulation?

Also, I wanted to make Wood Welsh but I've forgotten how to do Welsh since last year. :(

HA!! After several hours and some "whinging" I got all four parts of Chapter Seven. I have them on endless playback. Then I decided to be all bookish and record myself reading. Quite a lot harder than I thought.

Oh, you would love the read-aloud project! I think all the chapters for all of the books have been assigned but you could join the 'reserve' list for when people can't make their promised chapter?

I've expanded my reading 'repertoire' in the last few months, let me offer you a selection of mp3s next time we speak! Did *you* record anything and can I have it?

I couldn't read HP aloud ... well, I *could* but I have no accent save a run-of-the-mill American one, and an upper-class snobby Brit one, and a Southern American one, a faux Brooklyn one, and like, a total valley girl - OMG!! Hmmm, maybe I could do it for gits and shiggles.

I recorded the first chapter of Phantom by Susan Kay, then recorded over it with the "Story of the Twins, Part I". Let me tell you, deep/sexy for Maharet is hard to do when she jabbers on for PAGES. I think I have broken something. Ah vell. It is in the recycle bin as well. I'm too much the perfectionist, I fear. Nothing is ever good enough.

You don't need to do spesh accents! It's enough in reading aloud just to differentiate between narration and direct speech, you know? And yeah, Maharet would be *hard*, since nobody really knows what accent she might have. Least of all Jorge Saralegui.

I don't disdain my natural accent. Because for one thing, how I speak *is* my natural accent, and for another, there are a few categories to the Australian accent, and although I don't speak with a broad Australian accent I still sound Australian in parts, as you said, particularly with vowels. I just don't have the broad Australian accent, which is what the world expects from us. :s
