Easter and Books

In England last year I had a white Easter, the last of the snow before the daffodils arrived. Last year I went to Holy Thursday Mass at York Minster, in darkness and quiet, and to the Saturday Vigil in downtown Leeds, all lights and noise. I missed my family terribly. I began this meme but halfway through I felt like I'd learned how to read last week. And then I was wikipeding authors and sobbing at my incompetence. Yeah, it wasn't pleasant.

I agree with your views on The Gathering, it was awful, couldn't finish it. I know others, however, loved it.

Yes, it was so damn depressing! And unrelentingly so. I understand all those feelings of grief, even more so recently, but I can't imagine that writing the novel would have been cathartic for the author in any way. It certainly did nothing for me as a reader.
