When you live in a cookie cutter world...

Recently a friend said this to me: “I think it’s funny how you’re so smart and literary, but then you also like Hanson.”

Well.

Leaving aside the fact that "highbrow vs. lowbrow culture" is a false dichotomy, I’m the first to admit to having some pretty trashy tastes: I love Kraft EasyMac, I watch Gossip Girl, “Push the Button” by the Sugababes is ( Read more... )

angst, rants, hanson

Who doesn't! From the theme song to the fashions to all the teen stars who actually went on to be in other things. One of my friends and I would always quote Susie Barrett's dumb lines: "I've been to the moon." "Alligators like to fly." "'I saw a dog.' 'What kind of dog?' 'A green one'." GOOD TIMES! :D

I love bad 80s music with synthesisers, the Backstreet Boys, low quality sci-fi movies, sappy romance and tear-jerker movies (yes, Beaches is in there) and Neil Diamond. There you go.

OMG! I love that you love sap. The Backstreet Boys, man, my sister played me something new (?) of theirs the other day, I was all, whoooaaa. They were pretty awesome, I still have the single (!) of "As Long As You Love Me".

I had their Millennium album when I was wee. I know they're totally manufactured boy band, but damn it, they're catchy.

As for the sap? Yeah. Totally guilty. Up Close and Personal is another example.

I love Hanson (as you well know), Mika, Mandy Moore, I love to dance to the Pussycat Dolls. I love watching Gilmore Girls, Buffy, Angel, Dark Angel, and Girls of the Playboy Mansion (Quite possibly the only one here that I am embarrassed to say I like). I loved reading Judy Blume and The Baby Sitters Club Books. I loved the BSC movie!

And secretly slightly hate those kinds of people who mock me for all of these, especially Hanson. Because they CANNOT judge them.

Heee I adore Mandy Moore, especially "Candy". Another of my top ten favourite songs of all time. LOL @ Girls of the Playboy Mansion. :p Hee. But I'm all about the Gilmore Girls and Judy Blume too.

When Jess wants to watch a movie, I always suggest Shrek. FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER! Isn't it?

Jodi Picoult, bb.

Well, there's Savage Garden, Darren Hayes (like Hanson he is judged on his known music but the later stuff is as cred as Goldfrapp. Honest!), chick lit, I feel people look down on me for reading Herbert and King horror and not 1984 but King is even more insecure about this then his fans (I am Poe! I am! I am!) so whatever.

Savage Garden have cred! Don't they? I thought they would. More than Hanson? They won an ARIA or something. Well we like them here anyway because they're homegrown. I don't think we like Darren so much anymore since he lives in London full-time. I read chick lit sometimes too and I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with King. <33333

Not here they don't "Savage Garden's for people who don't like music" is one quote. I think the over produced second album did it!
