I've just found out from the wonderful and incredibly useful comm,
words_count that today is National Coming Out Day!!! In light of this (which I'm sure most of you already knew), I think a challenge is in order!!! So here begins the:
National (Globabl) Coming Out Challenge
Do John and Rodney coming out to each other? What happens when they Tell family/friends? What happens when Don't Ask, Don't Tell is repealled (as we all know it should be)? Does everyone already know? Does Rodney break Katies heart?
These are questions that can never have to many answers.
As everyone knows the weekend really begins on Thursday (I'm a student), I propose that this challenge lasts until Monday morning, so everyone can spend the weekend discovering John and Rodney's love.

Unbetaed because I really have to get some lunch and go to work.
This ended a lot differently to how I started it, not sure how that happened.
Untitled Coming Out Celebration Ficlet (It started as a celebration, honest).
John‘s welcoming “Elizabeth,” as he opened the door had seemed surprised, and Elizabeth mentally cursed, she had wanted this to be as normal as possible, not put him on guard before she had even sat down. Now, as she stepped into his room, trying to make it absolutely clear that she was there as his friend and not his boss, she looked around.
There wasn’t a single sign. Not one. Not that she knew what she’d expected to see - an extra laptop? A T-shirt that was a few sizes too big? A photograph of the two of them, settled incongruously on the bedside table? Something.
There was nothing. John’s room looked exactly the same as the last time she’d been in there, military tidy with a few touches that made it uniquely John’s - the surfboard, guitar and Johnny Cash poster that always made her smile. Elizabeth had always thought that the room was just like John, it showed enough personality to make you think you knew him, without giving anything important away. Superficial. There was nothing to indicate any change, no feeling that anyone else spent any time in there.
“Have a seat,” John offered, gesturing to his couch.
Elizabeth sat, watching as John perched on the edge of his bed. They sat in silence while Elizabeth tried to think of how to phrase the hardest thing she’d ever said to him.
“How have you been lately?” Oh god, that was bad.
John’s eyes narrowed.
“Fine. You?”
“Good. Good. Enjoying the relative quiet.”
John nodded and stared at some point over her shoulder.
This was ridiculous. She was a grown woman a fully capable of having awkward conversations.
“I’ve been hearing rumours. Rumours about you and-“ She cut herself off, “rumours that are potentially damaging to your career.”
John sighed. “A social call, huh?”
“I’m here as a friend, John.”
John nodded slowly to himself. “Right.” He didn’t sound convinced.
“I can’t protect you if I don’t know what’s going on. Atlantis needs you, but you’ve made a lot of enemies in high places.”
John was nodding again. Reading John’s expressions was usually like trying to understand an argument between Rodney and Radek, but this time, she could clearly see the resignation in his eyes.
“There’s nothing going on.”
Elizabeth rubbed a hand across her forehead.
“That’s not what I meant, John.” She exhaled. “If, hypothetically, you were involved in a relationship with...someone of the same gender, I would appreciate it if you kept me in the loop. So if anyone comes around asking awkward questions I’ll know enough to protect you both to the best of my ability.”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
“John!” She took a deep breath and released it slowly, “I’m not asking you for details. I’m not asking you to...end the relationship. I just want a yes or no.”
John drew his focus to her face and stared at her, expressionless.
“Yes.” He said.
Elizabeth was shocked. She shouldn’t have been, she’s already known, suspected, and John’s behaviour as good as confirmed it. Still, she’d never expected him to admit it. She drew her command around her like a cloak.
“Right. I’ll do what I can for you if a situation does arise, but I’m making no guarantees. You both need to be careful. I came to you because it’s your career at risk, but Dr Jacobs needs to understand that you both need to be more discreet.”
John nodded.
“So, these rumours...”
“I’m not giving you names.” She said as she stood.
“Doesn’t matter, I think I can guess.” His expression wasn’t friendly.
Elizabeth saw herself to the door, more than ready to leave. Outside she activated her radio.
“Rodney?”
“Yes. What?”
“Meet me in my office.”
Elizabeth knew how she sounded, and for once Rodney seemed to have picked up on someone else’s mood. He was quiet for a long time.
“I’ll be there in five minutes.”
Elizabeth nodded to herself and turned off the radio. As if the meeting with John hadn’t been bad enough, now she had to convince Rodney out of trying to transfer Dr Jacobs back to the SGC. Sometimes Elizabeth just wanted to bang all of their heads together.
End.
