Brief New York update

Dec 07, 2011 10:34

I actually have some downtime before I have to go off for my first day of internship work, so I thought I'd check in. Things have been a little crazy here so far, but after a confusing day yesterday figuring out how to navigate the city, I think I will have a lot more success from here on out ( Read more... )

Hey.

We are brand new on each others' flists and I really don't know anything about you! How long are you staying in NYC? What is your internship?

I live in NYC. We could get together for a coffee some time if you like.

I'm interning for BUST Magazine, which is a feminist publication based in NYC! It's mostly fact-checking and blogging and errands, but good experience and a good time. I've only been there a day, but I like it so far. :) The internship lasts until March 1, but this month I'm going home to Washington D.C. on the weekends until I find a cheap room to rent. I'm hoping to rent for just January and February. If you know of any rooms going that are cheap and also safe, let me know. ;)

I would love to get to know one another! Tomorrow is my last full day here for the week, and I'll be here every other week Sunday evening-Friday morning (although I am hoping that the weeks after Christmas and New Year's I can change my days of work so that I don't have to travel on the holiday). I get off at 6 each day, and I don't work Tuesdays. Let me know what works for you!

Oh that's very cool. I've read BUST magazine and gone to the craftacular.

Why don't you email me and we can arrange further.

I think it's kind of a rite of passage for New Yorkers to get lost on the public transport, so remember it as story to tell people about later ;)

Also, I've found the MTA's Trip Planner to actually be really good, not just with stations etc but with times you can expect the trains and such.

It was really my stubbornness that did it; if I'd had a subway map I wouldn't have had any trouble at all. But I'm glad I got it out of the way yesterday.

Oh jeez, your other post got lost in the f-list shuffle- it's so awesome that you're plunging into this internship! It's a risk, but it sounds super exciting. I hope you learn a lot and live it up in NYC!

If I can keep myself afloat money-wise, it should be an excellent opportunity. :) I'm glad to be doing it! If I can get over all the tiredness, and if it stops raining, I should be able to have all kinds of adventures.

It's going really well! I mean, the paid employees are planning an event for this Saturday, so they're really busy with marketing and advertising and stuff, but most of it is stuff they can't really pass off on the interns. That means they're really busy and I'm not doing nearly as much. It's a lot less fast-paced than being in a classroom, where you have to be "on" all the time. But it's an awesome internship, and I'm loving being in NY!
