Yeah, don't be a hands-off parent :-) My parents were really hands-off in a lot of ways, and I think my early schooling would have gone a lot better if they had been involved. Sounds like everything is going pretty well so far- that's a great school that will do Langston Hughes poems and sing about Rosa Parks.

OH, that make s em feel better! Thanks for updating.

I think I am going to steal this paragraph:and I also told them that dd has been socialized to be kind and respectful and compassionate, and my goals for her are not about academics (she'll be fine academically; i have no worries at all about that) but that she be able to maintain that way of being and not lose it in the mes sof anti-social behavior from other kids.
For our "goal setting" conference of Thursday. (all the kids get one, not only those with hands-on parents.

I think you are making great decisions :)

thank you! The meeting doubled as our goal setting session, but, yeah, goals? I want her to be happy and to survive school with our value system in place. she'll read and count, I have no doubt.

Good for you! I'm glad it is working out. Like I said before, I wish the parents in my school were as involved as you are! salam

Thanks for updating! I've been thinking about N as I watch all the kids hitting college and getting socialized or r-socialized. One boy came to my office hours basically to tell me that it was weird to be in a class where he could express a different opinion than me and not get sent to the principle's office. (But he was at a conservative Catholic school, and he chalked it up to that - I don't know, since I went to grade school at teh buddhist school my folks started. Though we did wear uniforms.)

LOL, I can't even think about college! Ideally N will decide to ditch school once she's about 12.
