This morning I told Natasha that Obama was sending 30, 000 more soldiers to Afghanistan. Natasha said, But wasn’t he against he war? We had some interesting conversation, and I talked about how even though we knew Obama thought the Afghanistan war was ok, he had been opposed to the Iraq war, and he was still better than McCain and no different ( Read more... )

Well, I was trying to support and raise the international exposure of groups like RAWA (who are, of course, still strongly opposed to the invasion and occupation of their country and don't see Western intervention and support of warlords as freeing them from the Taliban) long before most of the warmongers here had heard of them. I remember watching the bombs go off and hearing on the news that the US had attacked and thinking, "Oh God not that shit again." Reacting in horror when my own country went along with the invasion. Marching in the streets with, oh, the 20 other Canadians who realized we had attacked another country against the war the first Saturday after it happened.

Totally united here.

I'm long over the idea that McCain would have been worse, precisely because he would never have had the anesthetizing effect on anti-war voices that Obama has. People really do, in their hearts, love imperialism and murder. There's just no way around that, I'm afraid. All they demand is a pitchman more to their personal tastes while it's going on.

If you believe the folks at antiwar dot com, most of the folks who'll turn out to protest the war at this point are Libertarians. Well, I'm not proud. So long as there are no loyalty oaths or dues involved, and so long as my feet hold up, I'll be happy to march alongside anyone who still has enough moral clarity to protest this idiocy.
