About 25 of us trudged towards military prison 400, just outside of Tel Aviv, coils of razor wire and lookout towers looming above us, fields of mud and dry grass to our right. I wrote this in 2007, inspired by stories told by a friend of mine who grew up in Gaza (he had been shot twice by IDF before he was 14 years old). You are free to use it in any way you like, as long as you attribute it properly.

Palestine

scarred skies overhead
helicopters overheard
curfew's past
and dawn is days away
children slink through alleyways
hell on earth
from death to birth
start and stop
and stand very, very still
do what you will
just don't let them see you
the game's not over
just because you're not allowed to play
