Faith's never been one of my favourite episodes. Which is rather odd, considering how much I squee over some of the details.
Not a picspam.
1x12: Faith
This is the only episode so far where the tasers have been seen/used.
Dean's set them to 100 000 volts.
Please note the box o' silver bullets in the trunk. *is unreasonably happy to see it*
In the beginning, just before Dean closes the trunk, he flips the flashlight in his hand. *adores* (Yes, I have a thing for hands, too...)
Dean's shown going through channels 25, 26, 27.
Dean's monitor says 96 in green, 97 in purple.
According to Sam, he's been "scouring the Internet for the last 3 days."
He's apparently contacted everyone in John's journal.
One of those contacts, Joshua, called him back.
"The Church of Roy Le Grange
Faith Healer
Sundays 11 AM & 2 PM
Witness the Miracle"
The plates of the Sheriff's car bear the numbers 304.
The slogans on the walls are all from the Bible:
"Jesus Christ maketh thee whole..." (Acts 9:34)
"For I will restore/health unto thee and I will heal thee of thy wounds" (Jeremiah 30:17)
"I am the Lord that healeth thee." (Exodus 15:26)
"The Lord will take away from thee all sickness" (Deuteronomy 7:15)
"He sends His Word and heals them" (Psalms 107:20)
"Who forgiveth all thy iniquities, Who healeth all thy diseases." (Psalms 103:3)
"Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all" (Matthew 12:15)
Marshall Hall was 27 when he died.
Swam daily, didn't smoke, liked guys.
Dean was healed, and Marshall Hall died (the clock in the swim hall stopping) 4:17 PM.
The boys are staying in an unnamed Motel, room 8, while in Nebraska.
According to Dean the reapers go by "a hundred different names."
The card Sam pulls out of the deck seems to be The Magician.
When the boys get to the tent after the reaper-revelation, Dean says the service starts in 15 minutes.
The newspaper clippings are from Ford City's newspapers.
"Openly Gay Teacher Wins Lawsuit - Strong message sent to nation's school board" is the headline for the issue 8329.38.05, as reported by
Leeann Elaschuk.
The woman who died was Holly Morton, local Abortion supporter. Her story's reporter seems to be Suzanne Egle.
The protester is David Wright. The newspaper (reporter Robert Leader) clipping with his picture can be seen beginning with "The Roy Le Grange Church was established less than a year ago in Ford City, Nebraska. Roy Le Grange and his wife Sue Ann settled into the area and have gathered----"
Dean's not lying about/misremembering the symbol being a
Coptic Cross. Even if it's
the original version, rather than the slightly more
familiar version.
Layla has a golden pendant on a chain around her neck throughout the whole episode. It's a round pendant, and looks like a Saint pendant, but I can't make out what saint that's supposed to be.
Christopher?
Thoughts and Shtuff
The boys' roles get reinforced: Sam's charged with getting the 'civilians' out of the way while Dean tries to draw the monster-of-the-week's attention to himself, deal with it.
This has happened in Wendigo (1x02), Hookman (1X07) and Asylum (1x10).
Sam's given responsibility, an important task, but he's also kept out of the direct line of fire.
One might assume that Sam went looking for a cure the moment he left the hospital. But was the voice mail he left to John the first time he contacted his father about this? Dean's dying and it takes Sam three days to become desperate enough to try and reach John? Or was that call just "Hey, our life's a piece of shit, but thanks for all the fish"?
I wonder if the prominence of the number 6 in this episode was intentional. It is the number of the Rourkes' visits to see Roy, the number of months Layla has left (according to the doctors) and the number of people Roy has healed "over the past year..."
This episode showcases the...'coldness' inherent in Sam's personality. He's the one who, even though teary-eyed, doesn't seem to regret the fact that Marshall Hall died, rationalizing that "he would've probably died anyway". He's the one who watches Sue Ann die without remorse.
Whereas Dean... Brings forth his own feelings of being worthless, multiple times.
What's curious, methinks, is how easily Dean talks of killing Roy, and Sam claims that human life is special.
I'm off to sleep now. And seems like LJ's having problem with emailing the comments. Bummer.
