Those Tiny Trifles: 1x05, Bloody Mary

Aug 02, 2007 00:18

The most notable thing about this episode besides the "Oh, boys!" is, without a doubt, the revelation that Sam's emo enough to cry tears of blood.
Not a picspam.

1x05: Bloody Mary
3 girls are playing Truth or Dare in the light of 8 candles. One of them is Lily Shoemaker, 12.
Steven Shoemaker passes 3 mirrors which reflect Bloody Mary before she catches him in the 4th. She can also be spotted in the window.
Sam's wearing his grey fleur-de-lis hoodie quite a lot in this episode.
Steven Shoemaker was 46 when he died.
"A short service will be held on Wednesday, (Octo?)ber 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Toledo-"
The boys visit the rooom marked "Morgue 144", where Dr. D. Feiklowicz has his table.
Sam pulls out 5 20$ bills from a brown wallet in his own pocket.
As appropriate for a funeral, the Shoemaker's home is filled with different bouquets of mostly white flowers, and lilies are well-presented.
Both of the boys are wary to say 'Bloody Mary' in the Shoemaker bathroom. I find this adorable.
Sam gives his cellphone number to Charlie.
According to Sam "there's like 50 different versions" about who Bloody Mary really was.
Jill says Bloody Mary in front of her bathroom mirror, goes to her closet which's mirror reflects Mary, goes to her dressing table, which's mirror reflects Mary, puts her earrings to her jewelry box (which has a mirror). The computer screen also reflects Mary before she catches Jill in the bathroom mirror.
So she passes 3 reflections of Mary before she catches her in the 4th.
A few local women, Laura and Kathryn, committed suicides in front of a mirror.
A giant mirror fell on a Dave.
Jill drove a black Toyota Camry.
NCIC = National Crime Information Center.
The man the boys visit was "on the job for 35 years. Detective for most of that."
Mary Worthington was 19 when she died on March 29th, in an unspecified year, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Trevor Samson, a surgeon, was the detective's main suspect.
Charlie passes room 142, P.E. Office after the scene in the bathroom.
Charlie's in room 310, Chemistry, when she spots Bloody Mary.
There's a poster reading "Yeehah! Lake Erie High Fighting Mustangs Home of the Mighty Fighting Mustangs" on the wall of room 310.
Charlie 'passes' 5 reflections of Mary. 3 she sees.
Mary's mirror was in the Worthington family for years before it was sold one week prior to the episode.
The Antique-store's located near a place with 641 (???)ront St.
The Antique-store itself seems to be number 501.
There's a pole in front of the Antique-store's door, a plaque with 'McKenzie' on it.
The antique store is owned by Mr. Yamashiro.
Bloody Mary is shown reflected 3 times before she catches Sam. Sam sees and breaks 2 of the mirrors she appeared in.
Dean hazards a guess and says they've broken mirrors enough for 600 years of bad luck.
They broke 4.
Gary Bryman (8 year old, 2 years ago = in 2003), Linda Shoemaker, unnamed boyfriend. Jess. Unknown.
Charlie's home is in a sweet suburban area, with neat lawns, house number 11351.
Jessica's standing across from a place with the banner "George's Taverna in Steveston".
Jessica is wearing an ankle-long, white nightie, with a v-neck, the inside edged with lace. NOT the dress she died in.

Thoughts and Shtuff
  • Sam waking up on the bed while Dean's been delving into the history is sort of curious. And not only because he's wearing the fleur-de-lis hoodie which I'm sort of in love with.
His question upon coming to grips with reality is not "Why didn't you wake me up?" or "What happened?" or something like that. It's "Why'd you let me fall asleep?"
And I'm not allowed to listen to that snippet, because damn, it hurts.
I do wonder what preceded that (besides the nightmare). It's a shot in the dark, but I'd say Sam probably just...dozed off. He never realized he was falling asleep. But he probably went to the bed by himself. And then? Drifted off, thinking, while taking a break from the research.
  • Every time Bloody Mary is summoned, save for the last time, her name is said in front of a bathroom mirror.
  • The money Sam bribes the attendant with are from a poker game Dean won. And yet, the wallet seems to be pulled out of Sam's pockets.
Considering how Sam scoffs the ways Dean makes money (Pilot, 1x01; Bugs, 1x08), I'm sort of surprised that Dean shares his winnings with Sam. (This line of thinking would be further elaborated on in Tall Tales, 2x15.)
  • When Charlie comes upon the boys in the bathroom, I can't help but think what's going through her head. Two cute guys sneaking into a bathroom, together? Looking guilty and claiming they needed it? At the same time?
...Slash gets written with lesser 'proof'...;)
  • The year of Mary Worthington's death is never revealed. But since the detective's retired and Mary's mirror was in the family's hands "for years"...Definitely before the 21st century.
  • Dean's comment about bad luck? If he's referring to what seems to be the generally accepted 'norm' for the number of the years (7), they should've broken roughly 86 mirrors. Or then one gets 150 years of bad luck for breaking a single mirror.

A needle, some thread, a crocheting hook and a couple of pretty pieces of denim are holding me hostage among the Real Life duties.
Normal program will progress once I've satisfied the devils demanding beads and embroidery and the jingle of coins and bells and cowrie shells.
