There was a time when they shared him. Back when they were rebellious, and didn’t care about feelings and were just in it for the thrill. Before Super Junior. Before Kibum was told to take voice lessons and dance lessons. Where they would have lazy afternoons curled up together: Kibum, Donghae, Hyukjae.
Kibum would trace lazy patterns on Donghae’s stomach and he would laugh loudly, feet kicking wildly in the air. Hyukjae would help Kibum hold Donghae’s feet down as they tickled him mercilessly and then ended up in a pile of limbs, hands grabbing hair and pulling.
And sometimes Donghae wouldn’t end up in the middle. Sometimes Kibum would be lavished the attention, or Hyukjae. And they wouldn’t care because they were all grinning, and panting and really one touch wasn’t any different from any other touch.
At least that’s how it was back then. Then they debuted and it became harder. Their schedules dictated their sleeping arrangements and suddenly there would only be two of them cuddled up together, not three. And when it was the three of them it would be too rushed and there would be mutters of “you don’t have to fight” and “we can take our time.” But neither Kibum nor Hyukjae had time. So they’d take turns, and Donghae was no longer cuddled between two warm bodies at night, only two warm arms.
He’d try to coax them both back together. He’d try to make them kiss. He’d watch and think it was the hottest sight he had ever seen, but then Hyujae would start laughing and Kibum would sigh and stop, unable to take the interruption and nothing Donghae could do would convince Kibum to join them again as long as Hyukjae was laughing.
For Donghae’s birthday they thought it would be nice to try. Hyukjae promised not to laugh, and Kibum promised not to stop. Donghae was lead into his room, and forced to sit and watch as Kibum pulled Hyukjae on top of him. Donghae could only stare, slack jawed, as they tried and make it seem like it wasn’t forced, and Kibum was enough of an actor that Donghae was convinced. Convinced so much that he came before he could even join the two of them.
One day, out of the blue, while they were laying in one of their beds, Hyukjae told Donghae he loved him.
Donghae asked, “what about Kibum?”
“I like him. But Donghae, I love you.”
Donghae had kissed him to show his thanks. That didn’t stop him from calling Kibum that night while he was on set.
“Hyukjae told me he loved me today.”
“Good for him?” Kibum didn’t sound impressed. Or threatened. Just tired.
“I’d thought you’d like to know.”
They hung up shortly after that.
Kibum showed up at Donghae’s dorm and fucked him into the mattress while Hyukjae slept in the bed beside them.
They weren’t jealous, just competitive they told Donghae. Donghae didn’t mind the competitiveness between the two of them as long as it stayed in the bedroom.
When Donghae announced that the two of them would have to get along without him they both shrugged, too exhausted to understand what he had meant. What he was trying to imply.
Kibum and Hyukjae didn’t sleep together once in all the time Donghae was gone.
They each greeted him separately and he realized that it would never be like it was before. Back when they would all sleep together and not care. Back when they would put on a show for him. He could still coax them to be with him together, but they would never go to each other. Because Kibum and Hyukjae realized they only liked each other. They both loved Donghae.
