I saw the hospital, nurse the shoreline like a wound.

Yesterday I visited Metro Health hospital near Grand Rapids. It was glorious! It's hard to explain. I realize that I don't have a particular program that I'm gunning for but even if I did, it'd be hard not to avoid this place. It is shiny and new, only first accepting patients 2 years ago. It's a pure D.O. hospital although there is little ( Read more... )

I cannot pretend to be shocked for I already know of the many crazy ways of the medical educational system. However, it sucks nevertheless. Good luck with your placement - I am sure you will have an important experience wherever you are placed.

Just don't get Henry Ford. We're all crazy patients there. :)

As much as I'm fond of Detroit suburbia, Henry Ford doesn't fit what I'm looking for. Still I won't mind if that's where I end up. If I try and think too hard on it I'll go crazy as well.

I say you apply to the dingiest, grodiest, most dangerous bacteria farm on the list. Everybody else will turn out to be Dr. Doug Murphy. You'll be boiled down, as in a crucible, into a veritable Roy Chapman Andrews of medicine. Then? Doctors Without Borders.

But St. Joe's isn't on the list :P I'm sure I'll be comparable to Roy Chapman Andrews no matter where I go. I'll do one better than Dr. w/o borders. I'll be so good, I'll make the countries come to me!

Hmm. I can see how the lottery would be extremely stressful for some people, but I can also see how it would be exciting, for someone like you who doesn't have a family to worry about. It's like a surprise! I hope you get to go somewhere cool. Now is the time in our lives to try new things/new cities. :-) I miss E.L. but I don't regret spontaneously moving to Chicago. I've learned a lot. Wherever you end up going, it'll be an adventure, for sure.

I don't know if the lottery is exciting for anyone. Not to say that there are hospitals that are less adventurous than others, but just the perception that you have control over your own future. Some (Like Munson in Traverse City) are just cumbersome areas to go. I'm glad you moved to Chi-town too, and not only because it means I can stay at a friends when I go to the city. Turns out Brandy got accepted at a nursing school at Rush. Maybe you guys can be friends so I can see you both?

Try bribing the hat. Offer to get it a nice hat rack.

Yeah, tell it you know a good plastic surgeon, and you could have it looking like a tophat by this time next month.

You can't even comment on a hat's rack without getting slapped in the face. It's best to just let it alone.
