Oh, thank you. You know, I feel a little embarrassed about asking this, but... I've never heard of Easter. What is it? Some sort of festival?

At its core, Easter is a religious holiday. It is the day on which Christians observe resurrection of our savior, Jesus, from the dead.

However, since the early Christians didn't know for certain which day He rose from the dead, they picked an old pagan festival on which to hold it. Hence some of the traditions, like giving candy.
